Getting a new detector... What's your opinion of it...

Minelab Sovereign GT. I'm looking at this detector mainly for hunting the beach. If anyone has any experience with this detector for beach hunting, please comment....

Thanks...
Pappy

The Sovereign GT is a great choice for the beach. I know one particular "pro" at the beach who uses one he's waterproofed. He's got a large elliptical coil on it (must be custom 'cause I've never seen it before). Anyway, he digs some great, very deep stuff. One of the things he showed me was how quiet it was at the beach... He was running close to max sensitivity and it was very stable; no annoying falsing. That's real important, especially when you find yourself in the shallow surf. I use an ExpII and while it's certainly paid for itself twice in the last 2 years or so, it's VERY noisy at the beach.

A lot of people chest mount the control box.

I have on the classifieds with a waterproof box and underwater grayghost headphones I know a shameless plug:biggrin: . It is a great machine in and out of the surf.

Ive heard a lot of good about Minelab, lots of people use them...I use a fisher 1280x with 8inch coil for the H20-Ionly detect in fresh water in Michigan;Ive heard its not too good around the salt water.BUT:I WOULD ADVISE AGAINST waterproofing a land detector for the water-I had a Garrett land detector a few years ago,was detecting in the water-Got in a little too deep,a wave washed over the box-I found out the hard way($$$:() I might as well buy a detector that was built for the wet.-Just my 2 cents worth......

The Sov is a great machine. I don't have one, but know people that do. I use an Explorer and love it. There are some great beach machines that are great at sniffing out gold.

call you Pastor Ron Pappy ?

welcome brother

Hey Jim: my first name is Byron. Ron is a nickname. My middle name is Shakespeare.

So you can imagine what I've been called back in my school days....

You can call me anything you like but Shakespeare.

Need the money or I would not let it go it really is a great machine. You won't be sorry you got one.

Sovereign GT is the only machine I use...and have used since I started detecting.

I do have a Minelab Sovereign Elite as a "back up".

The GT is a terrific detector! It goes deeeeeeeeep and has very clear , concise target sounds..I use it in low tide mud mostly, but it works great on the wet and dry sand also.

If the gold is there, the GT will find it for you!

I will never part with my GT!
