Getting Frustrated. Could use some advice.

Hey Minerjohn,

Best advice I have to offer; see if you can hook up with a local detecting club and go hunting with them. NOTHING will help you learn quicker. The club will certainly have some veteran hunters that can help you determine if your detector is working properly or not. And you will get the bonus of learning proper hunting and recovery techniques for the areas you hunt. And you can ask them a ton of questions. :bouncy:

BTW, red clay has a bad reputation with detectorists. It is possible that your Ace 250 just doesn't have a chance in that particular kind of soil. If so, you can always look for other areas to hunt.

Good luck.

Yeah the old C&G, Jack Gifford's old baby and I can't remember his partner's name off hand. They were pretty good machines.

Hi,
I have still the old Wildcat that gave me a lot of fun and good finds.
Now I have an ACE 250,nevertheless I will keep this Wildcat.

Detecting freshly buried coins or coins dropped in a hole is often an exercise in futility due to an effect known as "Metallurgical Phenomenon" and throws many users for a loop. So bear this in mind for futire reference.

strange, I was told that this is the 'sure fire' method of getting to know your Ace.

It seems like people are giving you sugarcoated answers. Lets cut to the chase. The Ace 250 is good but not perfect. Your area of the country, from what I have heard is very mineralised. You clearly stated that you are running the sens low and have taped the coil cord straight up the shaft. Yet, people are telling you do do the things you have all ready done. You need either a GTP 1350, GTI 1500, or the GTI 2500. Each of these machines have a new mineral chip made to handle hot ground. Plus, the GTI and GTP series have auto ground tracking to help adjust to ground minerals on the fly. That is your option as far as staying with a Garrett machine. Or you can go with one of the Minelab machines which in my opinion has the best ground balance available. Sorry but I have to call it like it is.

Take care good luck
Jason

I suspect your in an area with high soil mineralization.
Like the Willy and dahut said, factory settings are not much good
in that situation. You might call around to some of the dealers who sell in
your area and see if others have had the same problems, and which detector
would be the best for ground balance.

The katz is out of the bag?
