getting permission to hunt

While waiting for my md I have started speaking with land owners about going on their land. I have found that friends hessitate but give permission after some queations. Others ask to be notified of special finds (ring,dog tags from wwii etc) and a few said they would rather I not. What lines seem to work the best for getting permission for you?

I guess I've had the benefit of already knowing most of the people I've asked. But you could tell them about all the junk you'll be digging up, and that you would be happy to haul it away for them. Or I guess the best possible thing you could say it that you would be happy to give them (or share) what you find. I think that would help them feel better about you digging up their property. If you show them what you have found, maybe that'll be enough to put them at ease and maybe they won't neccesarily want it after all. It does'nt hurt to butter them up a little somehow..good luck !!

Get some practice digging before using your machine on peoples lawns. Farm fields and wooded areas wouldn't be a problem, lawns are different. Farm fields will be planted soon, if not already. Plus you need to learn the machine. By learning your machine first, you will find more and better targets when you do hunt those lawns. My best advice would be hit those tot lots this summer and practice on your own lawn. If the plugs or flaps keep growing then you will be ready for other peoples property. And you will know what targets to dig and which should be left untouched. Good luck and remember that we love pictures.

i usually show and tell some of my finds off other lots and mention i keep all trash and let them know what i find
