Getting used to the 5x10 DD on my F70 :detecting:

I've been getting tuned into the 10" DD and finding it to be pretty interesting.
Mostly, this thing like to glide on turf. It doesn't drag or catch on twigs or clumps like the stock coil.
Depth seems comparable, with maybe a little more "info" coming through. My area is GBing around 97, with 2 to 3 bars on the iron meter.

I have noticed when at a medium/higher sensitivity setting, this coil will double/triple "ping" a fairly shallow target.
I had a clad dime buried in sand, about 2" deep. I swept over the dime to see how low/medium/high setting would react.
Once I was set at 65, the coil would lightly ping once the coil edge was over the dime, then a solid hit at the center, maybe a trailing ping when the opposite edge passed over.
Maybe I'm making something over nothing. But it was the first time I had encountered this type of response. I don't know if it was a fluke due to conditions or if the F70 had some other issue.

Once I get chance, I'll do some "worthless" air test comparisons between the stock, 6.5" and the 10"DD.

Oh, about EMI. The coil seems to be pretty stable, at least no worse than the stock coil. But I did run across a funny situation at a sports park. I was sweeping the grass strip between the parking area and the fields, when a low hum came through the phones. It was still daylight, no lights coming on. and the grass was not wet or damp. I tried to GB to no avail. Cycled through the Hz settings with no luck. The hum remained consistent. I had sweep through here before without this happening. and I didn't have the stock or the 6.5 coils with me to trade out. Puzzled, i moved on to "quieter" ground.

Sweet! Yeah, my 11"dd double pings on all shallow coins too..especially surface..thats why I run sens down to find the optimum setting for the area from an audio feedback perspective, so a guy knows what the target is, and how deep it is by the proportional audio signature...If I run sens too high, then all targets from 3" to 6" pretty much sound the same as far as their depth is concerned, and I cant stab them as quickly, since the signal is too loud and throwing a larger footprint...those low/midrange settings are perfect for general purpose modern coins/jewelry, and the higher ones for clean dirt/beach and old stuff hunting...at least for me..of course when the grass starts to get deep, a fellow has to take that all into account when high flying the coil....all sorts of audio feedback with these machines, in a good way, really from the first ping a guy pretty much knows what hes got under the coil. It should be a good weekend to do some in field research!:clapping:
Mud

Thanks mud, I'm glad to hear that it isn't unusual.
We just had a bit of weather pass through last night. So we'll see how the v - ball courts fared.
Then again, the hardpack at one of the older parks may have soften some with the rain.

Hmm, decisions, decisions

I've never done any good at all on VB courts...I found an old one last weekend and pulled some tarnished nickels and had high hopes for gold, but was once again disappointed.
Yeah, this weather has been just awful! Snow and rain and big wind! Add to that an inbound CME which just popped, that will hit us tomorrow, and probably freak us all for deep high sens hunting Sat at least..! I'm fixing to make a run South again at the end of this month, all the way to Orlando, and May will find me in GA and TN and who knows where? See what you can wring out with your new coil! Hope its good!
Mud...

I've had similar luck at v-ball courts. But I figure for testing, them big ol cat boxes are sure easy to dig.
Plus the ones by me are pretty iron heavy and GB fairly high. Making for good "worst scenario" tests.

Baseball and soccer practices are starting, and just more people getting outdoors.
Hopefully the newer areas will get recharged as I try the older parks out again.

Thanks for the report on the coil.
V-Ball courts have not been all that great for me, in the sand or around the perimeter, but basketball courts are a whole other matter.

I think I now understand the love for the 11" DD coil. The blade-like pattern really separates well. Working this coil through trashy sites is a pleasure.

I'm still working on mud's hopping technique. Just not hitting a good spot as of yet. But caps do fuzz-out more than coins. It takes some practice.

So far, I'm very happy with the 5x10 DD. It skates over turf and brambles. Has good separation and seems pretty accurate with the F70. Still some EMI, but no worse than the 10" elliptical.
I did armor the cable at the coil gland up for about 12" with some heat shrink. I snagged the cable near the coil on a juniper. No damage but figured some prevention/protection was needed before wandering the sagebrush.
