Getting used to the GTP1350

I picked up a 1350 late last year but winter kicked in before I had much chance to use it. So far this year I have been out about 6 or 7 times. I have been mainly hitting tot lots and have learned alot by doing this. I hunt mainly in jewelry mode with a sensitivity of about 6. Ive learned that if its deeper than 3" in a tot lot its probably junk. Everything I have found worth digging I picked up so far from one of these lots has been at 3" or less. Im really getting used to this machine and a Propointer should be here next week. I can see how one of these will make finding the target MUCH easier. The public beaches will start to draw visitors now that the weather has finally mellowed a bit so thats next on my list. Im hoping to do some detecting on the waters edge. I have found three rings so far (tot lots) as well as a couple necklace pendants but so far they are all fakes.

I have a Q for anyone using this machine. Have you ever noticed that sometimes pennys show up as dimes? I have had this happen several times. Weird.

It will probably be the copper pennies that show up as dime.....Not the zinc.

Yeah as you use it more you'll find more good stuff. The dime/penny scenario happens on a lot of machines. Just a quirk of the beast. No detector made can ID anything 100% accurate. They just offer probabilities.

Yeah, the conductivity of dimes is very close to penny. I'm not very familiar with that machine, but I would definitely not be discouraged to dig deeper than three inches at tot lots. That target that you think is junk just might be a diamond ring! Oh Yeah!We'll probably hit some tot lots today and definitely hit that beach first thing on Tuesday at low tide. After this holiday weekend there's bound to be some bling under the sand. Now it's just a matter of me gettin' my search coil over it!Best of luck to ya' when you hit that beach! Happy Hunting!

I have pulled quarters at ten inches in tot lots. Ignore no signals. Often coins are buried in the dirt beneath the chips.

I will keep that in mind. My recovery skills have improved sinece this past weekend I finally decided to try the screwdriver for popping coins out. Even in dry soil it works. Its almost funny how a coin can just pop out of a crack after poking it in and prying up a couple times. Once I have my Propointer I should be even better.
