Ghosting & which MD?

This time went to the lake and detected a beach.Got a hit 2 arrows deep,dug about 6'' deep,then to about 8'' deep till I started hitting dirt.It was still showin somethin @ 2 arrows deep but didnt see nothin.Covered it up and went on to find a bottle cap,2 pull tabs,and one 1995 & one 2000 pennies.

My 10 y.o. son was with me,doin alot of the holding,he also toted the diggin gear.He's the one who found the pennies,and was carryin on like he found a million $$$$,got home and showed MAMA what he found.
That was my new XT70 we used,now I want to get him something but I dont want to spend too much.Thought of the Ace 250 for him or F2,but maybe something a little cheaper.But I want it to have a display,that seems to get his attention,lookin at it.
It was too long and heavy for him so I'll have to do some modifing to shorten it.

What suggestions?

Its small, light and cheap but its also a great detector for the price and the Ace 250 has a TID screen. Your boy will probably be amused by the sound it makes too whenever you hit a target It does go deep and you can set it up to reject or accept targets which is a neat option for going after certain objects. The pinpoint works well and is another nice feature. The stock coil is all you will ever need in my opinion as it does a great job pretty much anywhere. Bounty hunter make some good cheap detectors too and the tracker IV comes with automatic ground tracking which is nice. If Garrett had of put a manual GB option on the Ace it would be an even better machine then it already is. Last but not least is the X-Terra 30, while it is a little more expensive it is another good option and a great detector. He will have a machine that looks like Dads which can make all the difference!

The 250 will adjust to a shorter length than the 30 for your little boy. The 250 has target icons for him to look at too. He will like the bright yellow color. The 30 is a fine detector also. Keeping kids interested takes some seeded hunts. I still plant some coins for my 12 year old Son. But I'm afraid the evil video game devil is trying to pull him away!

Speaking of computer games I must admit they can be addictive, I play the strategy games, the ones that take along time to make a move thats my style lol! If only they invented a metal detecting game for those days where you just cant get out because of bad weather or time.

I would have agree with the comments already made here. The F2 seems to have some reliability issues more than other detectors. Those that have one that works, get good results with them. Out of the X-Terra 30 and the Ace 250, my 2 sons always prefer to use the Ace. It's easier to learn, lighter and has a shorter lower shaft. Just remember to pinpoint with 12 o'clock position of the inner coil for an easy recovery.

The Ace 250 was the first one to pop in my mind,now I just got to find a good deal.
Just got to thinkin about a Whites Prism model,havent looked a them so I'll check them out also.
I did look at the BHs but the cheapest one I could find with a display was about $180,I rather put in a little extra and get the 250.
Naa,just looked at those and the 250 still seems to come out on top,even thought it is priced higher,but not much.

khouse,you are right,he will LOVE that yellow,put some black tape on for pin striping and it's Bumble Bee,a robot discuised as a MD.Thata get him hiped up,he loves Bumble Bee.By the way,Transformers is an awsome movie if you have'nt seen it yet.

No need to look at the Prizms. They run on two 9 volts, doesn't have selective notch, no small coil, 8 target segments.

it works OK for what it is, but there is no ground balance option. I got it for a backup detector and the 4" Sniper coil for tight spots. I redetected an area with my Quattro after using the ACE with the std coil and it was like I had never been there. Sold the ACE and got the X-70 and have never looked back. You might consider finding a used X-50 and you and your son can swap out coils. The 5X10 HF coil is almost weightless.I am afraid he may become discouraged when you are digging most of the loot.

Cool. I haven't tried that before. My father has no doubt used that site. What game do you play?i play Warlords 2 mostly. Got number 4, but just keep playing the old one. It came on 2 floppy discs. I'll get sick of it one day. I only play it occasionally.

Well, your best bet is the Ace 250, for sure. Nothing against BH. Alot of people own BH and are happy with the machine, but the Ace is probably the better of the low cost machines. Good luck.

This is a great program on CD and teaches you everything you need to know about chess. You can also have a guy tutoring you into telling you if a move you made was good or not thus it trains you while you play. Its 3D so you can move the board, flip it , rotate it, change the chess pieces and board etc. You can also play tournament matches that earn you points. It has videos of the best chess matches played throughout the ages, watching these games is simply amazing.

Thanks. I've played the Battle Chess program sometimes. It is a bit simple, but just loved watching the antics of the pieces as they get killed. Watching the Grand masters play would be a good way to learn. My father plays comp chess. He's an 1800 player. He runs rings around me, as I've never bothered to study the game. I just like to muck around with the odd social game.
