Giving the AT Pro a second chance!!

I had one a while back but it didn't seem to be my cup of tea and sold it. Looking back I don't think I gave it a good shot so I have a nice used one on the way. I primarily relic hunt so if some of you guys can throw me a few hints on how to run it to get max depth and still disc out iron and find the buttons and bullets fire me some setups. Thanks

I did the same thing! I purchased the AT Pro when it
first came out and also sold it.

Sometime later I purchased the AT Gold and sold it.

Just for kicks I decided to go back to the AT Pro and
I'm enjoying it. It's working out well for me and use
the Pro-Mode.

I use mine for relic hunting too. I've taken mine back to iron infested places that we have pounded for years and found good targets in with iron. I run Pro mode, Sens at max( If you can keep it stable), 35 iron Disc., Iron audio on. swing at a moderate speed until you here a mid to high tone beep. Then pin point the targets to get it center exactly under the coil. Then take short side by side sweeps and listen for that nice solid tone. Check some of my recent post and those finds have been found in old iron infest places that we hit many times over. JMO : MOST IMPORTANT is give the detector a chance and GET TO KNOW IT!!!! GOOD LUCK!

Thanks Joe for the advice!! Larry I hope this time I don't give up on it to soon!! The last one I had just seemed a little overwhelming, now that I've gotten experience with other detectors that produce the same tones and similar vdi, I believe I will be able to get a grip on it. What is pro mode zero and does this disc out small iron? I don't mind big iron relic hunting.

Junior: The ATP has two modes, Standard and Pro. Each has three presets; custom, coins and zero (discrimination), so Bart was referring to using the 'Zero' preset in the 'Pro' mode. You can still set any level of iron discrimination that you like. If you find a setting that you like to use a lot, you can use the "custom" preset so the detector will remember it. You're going to get signals on big iron even with iron disc maxed out.
If you haven't yet done so, the training videos on the garrett web site go through all the settings, and there are lots of good ones on Youtube, too.

From the land of the Bluenose.....absolutley hated the Pro after swinging Freedom 3 Plus for over 20 years. Am starting however.......to wark up to it. Best of the season to you and da brood me bouy!

Take your time and learn it properly. I think you will be surprised at how good a metal detector it really is. Don't overlook all those vedeos that Garrett has posted on it's forum. they should be a great help!

I have a gti2500 and a gti 1500 and a at pro the at pro does an excellant job in seperating iron junk from the good stuff,earlier this past summer I found a nice 1857 flying eagle penny near an old broken horse shoe, a very nice machine, like anything else, you need to learn the machine.

I have an at for water and a back up. I find it hard to relax when using it because you have to concentrate so hard to hear the good tones from the bad as this machine is so noisy. I thought about selling it but I would have to spend a lot more for a water machine.
