Actually it's the Hay's Mark I which is, if I remember the ad, around 98 khz. It reminds and acts like the Compass I once had. Not only is it hot on gold, I've found nickels in my usual sites and the patina on them tells me they probably registered as something besides a nickel. I have a steel pin that holds a trailer hitch, shaped like the letter "R" and it doesn't really reject it or accept it-just keeps humming but will find a gold ring held in ANY position ANYWHERE near the pin. I've found MANY charms and trinkets, 3 rings-MAYBE one of them is gold-it's so tiny but I'm able to make out 10k-but it looks worn and has the letters AAP above it-so maybe not gold. Some of the coins had such a dark red patina on them, I'm sure they were probably masked from other detectors. I can see why one of your acquaintanances is whipping butt and taking names.Uncle Willy said:100 khz is hot on gold. What kind of tector is it - a Compass maybe? If it's a 70 something model it has a DD coil. I field tested a Compass Gold Scanner Pro a few years back for Steve Goss who was trying to hold the remnants of Compass together at the time. If I can find it I'll post it. It never made it into a magazine, instead Steve posted it on their web site which may or may not still be in existence.

Yeah-I really think it's basically the same as the Coin Hustler by Compass.Uncle Willy said:Yeah a Jefferson nickel is the test used to determine if a detector is hot on gold as they have nearly the same conductivity.. I remember that machine. I've got some mags somewhere with ads for them. Do they still sell them? I haven't seen or heard of them in awhile. Aren't they pretty simple and basic as far as features are concerned?
