Going to conduct a little quiz. What features and innovations would you like to see on a new Garrett detector - what kind of display, what kind of con

I had forgotten about that feature on the Newforce R1 and I field tested that puppy back when. My field test is over at Lost Treasure.

Mr. Bill I think the Red and Black would be nice. I think a color change for Garrett would be really well. The Green is kinda dated. It reminds me of the 70's. Not that the 70's were bad, but the color scheme of things back then like I said is a little dated. I like the Ace 250 yellow. Even the Black Ace 250 weather covers look nice.

I think if Garrett made something like the new Whites Vision..Garrett would make it much simple and user friendly. I watched the video on the Vision and it is a very kool machine but seems very complicated, very unGarrett like. So if they will make a new top o the line beast then Im sure Garrett will make it user friendly. I believe it is time for a new top o the line machine. The GTI 2500 is still quit the beast but improvements could be had...like the auto grnd bal coul be better. I used an MXT in hot grd and it handled it much better than my 2500, I was shocked cause i have the mineral chip in it. I hope they will use the 15k circuit in a new machine with maybe the lower freq also. We shall see, they must be working on something...the new PI for military is a very kool engineering work I think....Just give us a modern VLF from Garrett. Like the GTI 2500 was like no other machine out when it hit the streets.....Garrett will have to suprise us again like Whites has done a good job with the Vision...just too complicated in My opinion...

The imaging feature is a very strong discriminating feature well worth retaining, but if it could be set up like a 1350, it would be compatible with any coil. It's the GTI's strongest feature but also it's Achilles heal in that it badly effects it's recovery speed. The audio system can do with some significant improvements as well. As far as the Ace is, I found that it's audio is far to harsh and that when I often encounted a trashy spot, it caused me sensory overload and I glazed over and probably left a lot of good targets in the ground. It is the primary reason I sold it, which was unfortunate, as it had some other really great qualities. Although the audio on the GTI is far more pleasant, i think that it could be greatly improved. With the Scorcher coil on, it becomes far more animated in that if you listen to the width of the signal, you have a better clue as to what the targets are. It would be good if Garretts could improve this feature even more and have it available on all coils. If the signal width could be even more refined than are what are already on the Scorcher coil, then it would be similar to listening to a modulated tone. I find that this tone that is already on the Scorcher coil doesn't allow you to hear past a certain width, which maxes out on large coins, screw caps and bigger items (they sound to be the same width).
The battery pack needs some serious redevelopment on the heavier Garrett. After wearing mine on my hip for just 6 weeks, I found that the connecting cable is too short and vulnerable and where the battery pack slides on to the unit, it must have worn down, to the point now that if I'm carrying the detector horizontally and I should point the handle end towards the ground more than say 25 degrees, my battery pack falls off to the ground. Very poor.
I think that the 24 notch system is perfect. 12 notches on the Ace is also very effective. I find that detectors that go much over this, ie 99 are far too unstable to be useful. Having a back light on all detectors is a major advantage, when late afternoon hunting or doing night beach hunting.
I'd like to see the tone system improved with a tone assigned to each notch as this would make hunting by ear much easier. At the moment, it is effectively a single tone machine, as I hunt most from pull tab to the screw cap range.(3.5-7.5)
A light weight detector has major advantages over the heavier units. Yes some folks are able to handle the heavier detectors, however it is far easier to swing a lighter unit without fatiguing, which comes back to the comfort/enjoyment factor in a big way. Doing away with 8 batteries and using 4 would be a good idea.
I'm sure that Garrett may have something altogether new in their R and D department now, so it will be interesting to see how things pan out.
Mick Evans.

Yep have read that field test several times. I would really like to try out that feature. Wish I could find a R1 to buy at a used price point.

Ace 250........wish list!

1. GB or Auto Ground tracking!
2. On/Off Lighted display
3. On/Off BELLTONE!
4. 24 segment ID.
5. TRUE AM mode!!! Can you imagine?
6. Splashproof would be ok.
7. "Salt mode" for you Gulf hunters.

And all this for only $50 more dollars please!

Yeah I'd like to see multiple operating frequencies like on the vision and I have mentioned that several times to Garrett over the past couple of years. That way it would be metal specific and one could hunt anything.

Bill

Been thinking about this and have a "revised" wish list.

An ACE 250 or "All New ACE 350":

Three way frequency switch.
Waterproof to 20 - 50 ft. - Can at least use in surf without fear of dropping, wave, etc.
24 section readout instead of twelve.
Coin/prospecting/nugget mode . With interchangeable frequency coils. (6.5, 12, or /and 15khz)
Backlight for night hunting - or maybe "Indiglo" type display like Timex watches. On - off switch or auto on with "beep".
Switch earphone plugin to other side, front of unit, or end of armrest.
Bluetooth compatible detector and earphones. ( No earphone wires needed!!!)
Firefly type light with on - off switch. (Flashes on "beep"). There are times I want all the hearing I can get without earphones - Wildlife, people, etc.
Autotrac/manual ground balancing.
Simple "this way pointer" GPS to where car is parked or to "very good digging site".

GARRETT, YOU MAKE IT WE WILL COME!!!!!!!!!!!

I am with R-n-R and rglyons I believe that a good updated ACE machine with the features they mentioned especially the "light-on-when-beep" have found myself detecting after dark and would like that function!

Given that there hasn't been much shift in the thinking of coils much in the last 20 plus years, I think that a 2 frequency detector that uses a coil system where the coils are angled a bit from each other (in an almost flat V shape)so that by sending out a signal from 2 slightly different angles you 1, get a more 3D like look at the target, and 2, where as current coils are always flat, even when they are putting out more than one frequency, they are still seeing targets from the SAME ANGLE. Having them set up in an almost flat V, would give the chance to further reduce target masking. If the detector was set up so that it could see each of these signals separately, in a way that when you have one target under the search coil, a dominate signal is received and called target one, but when a second target is received, called target 2, the detector could display it as a separate target (giving better ID on 2 close targets better than is now possible). I had mentioned the idea of using a sensor pad instead of coils here a couple of years back, which if you applied your imagination to you could get them to do things that you never thought possible. It could be set up with as many sensors on it as you want; you could hook them up in series (like radio telescopes) for great depth or have them operate independently for IDing shallow multiple targets.
There is no reason why you couldn't have more than 2 frequencies operating.
Just a few thoughts.
Mick Evans.

Send your ideas to Garrett. I do. Since different metals respond differently to different frequencies a multiple frequency machine would be more than versatile.

honestly too improve the garrett gti 2500 i would like too see a wieght decrease the darn thing is a little heavy for most people and change those sticky push buttons and put the tactical buttons that came with the gti 1500 .other than that it rocks :clapping:

Multiple freq's i would like. Check out the new Whites top o the line detector that just came out this week. Is quite a nice machine. But it is $1600. maybe Garrett is working on something to compete with this beast. I will wait. But it is a cool machine...

Alan
hello alan i wrote too garrett and thay told me theres is nothing that thay know of comeing out for a new style garrett detector  kind of bums me out also .

It'd probably be a waist of time. It would only make to the bin. They'll have their own ideas and run with them.

They wouldn't tell you anyway. THey are ultra-secretive when it comes to new products. I never know about them until the brown truck stops in front of my house with a brand new one.

Here's my two cents and wish list for a new tector, one with great ergonomics and interface.

No video game on a stick with endless menus and programs to fiddle with. Knobs strategically placed so one can thumb them on the fly and with instant readout on the display.

Separate gain and threshold controls placed side by side.

Continuous ground balance readout plus continuous display of ground mineralization and phase. Ground balance all the way to salt.

Four tone ID and multiple operating frequencies.

Trigger operated pinpoint with depth reading.

Long battery life.

Target confidence readout.

Target ID in all metal.

Large, easy to read display.

Light weight and well balanced.

Frequency shift.

Backlight.

Rapid ground balance by matching two numbers on the display and continuous readout.

All metal auto-tune.

Simple notch system.

Velcro cable and arm straps.

Rear conected cable.
