Been putting in a little time, starting to play with features of the 705 and am going to look at purchasing an additional coil in the future.

Started out by turning the machine on and dug a 2001 penny in the backyard- about 6 inches deep. Since then- pull tabs, junk etc...

Just was given permission to hunt an old layover stop along the Oregon Trail. Looking forward to checking it out. It's never been hunted and there is a grave marker in the area dated 1836.

I'm going to have to get serious about getting to know the features of the 705. Been getting some negative (IE -6) readings. Being that there were several old gold mining towns within 20 miles- I'm suspecting mineralization could be part of it.

I did get 30 min in at the site along the Oregon Trail. Dug some junk, .22 casings, 30 06 casing etc... Going to work with the detector this weekend and try to get an hour or 2 in on Tuesday evening.

Really starting to like the detecting hobby! Been diggin a lot of junk but I realize it's completely due to newbie operator error.

Like someone told me when I bought mine. They said "in 3 weeks you'll be really comfortable with it". I'd have to say that it was just slightly longer than that but now, a few months later, it seems so simple to use.

I went to a grove in a park last night that I hunted twice with the stock 9" coil. I really thought I had that particular grove hunted out. On my first trip (a few months ago) I found 17 coins and on the second trip (a few weeks ago) I didn't have good notes so I don't have a record of how many I found but would probably estimate about 10. Last night I put on the 10.5" HF DD coil for the first time in that grove and pulled up 27 more coins, a gaming token and 1940-1950 charge token from a department store.

Have fun!

Congrats on the new unit! Once you learn it you will feel quite at home with it. Make sure to check out the FAQFAQ at the top of the site. Tons of great reading, Beale.
