To increase your chances on finding gold at the beach you should do a little research.

1. Check the Tide chart for your area, and get to the beach 2 hrs before low tide
2. Start swinging perpendicular to the water at the wet sand line to the water edge (high tide line to water edge)
3. Work back and forth from high tide line to water edge overlapping your swings
4. When you start noticing a concentration of coins or other targets like fishing weights between high tide line and the water you can then turn and work parallel with the water, go down the beach a ways and come back, overlapping your swings and follow low tide out.

Your best chances of finding the gold are always in the areas where people swim, so the closer to the water and the wet sand is your best bet. CAUTION, be careful of rogue waves as you know if one hits your machine you'll be out of business.

Good Luck, and the E-Trac works well on the beach too bad it is not water proof. Here are a few E-Trac beach finds I found while on vacation last year.

I will add this to bcoop's post. Look for areas where the sand has been pulled off the beach by waves, tide, whatever. Cobble showing is a good sign, just hard to dig in. Id you are finding trash you may be in a good spot. Terry in San Diego

If you find a low spot on the beach where extra sand has been pulled off, that is a good spot to look, or an area where there are ripples in the sand, water may even still be standing in it. Search that area well.

I didn't find it that great on the beach and I was always scared I would drop it in the water so I ended up getting the Excalibur for the beach another fine detector.
