Gold Bug Pro/DP beach DISC settings?

Badger in NH

New member
What DISC settings are people using on the dry sand with the GB Pro/DP?

Is anyone finding gold in the 40 - 50 DISC range?

I usually keep Disc at 42. A fellow poster once noted that a small ear ring he found came in at 43.
Seems like a good place to start.

Good luck
Tony

I seldom use disc on my gold bug at the beach...after trying both modes, I am certain I get more depth in all metal (salt water beach..dry sand)...a tiny gold signet ring came in at 52...fine jewellery would come in lower (eg ear ring), but I dont think there would be many rings come in lower than 51 or 52. If you are detecting in an area where there is very little trash, I would suggest allmetalo mode...the ID can be assessed looking at the cursor at the top part of the screen. HH

Thanks everyone. I've been running my DISC at 50 to avoid foil. I guess I'm not missing much gold but it wouldn't hurt to keep it as low as possible whenever possible.

I definitely will be trying ALL METAL next time out, if I can find a clean area.

If you are on dry sand on the beach why not dig the foil. Are you using a scoop and have a magnet in it to grab the bobbypins and nails ?

I guess I was just being lazy. I should be digging all that stuff.

I have a handmade hand scoop of half inch hardware cloth that works great except that the GBP/DP picks up a lot of really tiny targets that most other machines would ignore. I need to make a smaller scoop with quarter inch mesh that I can hang on my belt for those targets.

The magnet is a good idea too.

GG is dependent on mineralization in the sand (ie black sand, etc) right? My unit seems to GG fine in both dry and wet most of the time. I have had to manually set it a couple times. I haven't beach hunted much, but ground grabbing or balancing has not seemed a problem.
