Hello, Gold Coin Find Club members....if you've found a gold coin please tell me your story. Where...When....what were your first feelings. And what type places would you look for to find more. I know they were awesome finds had to feel really great!. Let's hear about your story.
Include your pics if possible and identify your coin if possible.

well for me it was just last year....was driving by a park in the town next to mine heading out to find a place to hunt when i see a big pile of dirt in that park ...they were putting in a walk way about 40 yards long and had all the dirt piled up in one spot..soooo ..since myself and a couple other guys i hunt with have found silver in this place on many occasions i figured i would stop and see if i could score a merc or two from the dirt pile and side walk cut out they had just made ...well i start out with the dirt pile and get a couple clad coins...then out pops a silver washington quarter..so I'm thinkin OK this ain't bad..then proceed to dig some trash ..and then.....i get this familiar 7/20 on the machine which is usually a screw cap...but at this park Indian head pennies read there also for some reason...well i start to dig and I'm thinkin ...ok its either a screw cap or Indian....then the target sort of pops out and slides a little bit down the pile and i see its gold colored ..but I'm thinking some kind of token....well when i pick it up and start to rub some dirt off..i FROZE when i see stars and a coronet head starting to shine thru...got so damn excited i just grabbed the coin and detector and tore a$$ across the park to my truck and started for home.....about 6 or 8 blocks away i realize my digger is still on the dirt pile so i drove back and got it ...but the excitement of that day still lives in my mind like it was yesterday....turned out to be an 1880 five dollar coronet head gold coin...........THANKS FOR HAVING ME RE-LIVE THE MOMENT IT WAS GREAT!!!!
 
I have never found a gold coin yet. However your story has enabled me to have Hope. I am glad you could enjoy the moment and share the excitement with us. I feel it ! Thanks for the great pic. Your story belongs in a book.

KCK I found the left overs of a small cache last year, here is one of three gold coins that I recovered. Can't show all three as they are in the safety box at the bank. This pic., I still had on my storage site.

Here are three of the seven gold coins that I have found in almost n40 years nof Metal Detecting. They are (2) One Dollar Gold Pieces. One was holed, then Plugged dated 1878. The other is holed and dated, 1857. The last one is a California Gold dated 1854 that was one time a Stick Pin. This sucker is tiny! Most of my gold coins were found at Civil War Camp Sites. The others were found in yards or Courthouse Lawns. The first one I found was in 1983 at a Civil War Camp here in West virginia, an 1853 One Dollar Gold Piece. If I remember correctly, I slept with that coin that night to make sure I was not dreaming. I was young and dumb at that time. Anyway, Here are three. HH...Jesse.

KCK/ Ohio[/quote] you are welcome...and heck man every single person who has ever found a gold coin..and they can correct me if I'm wrong...just LIVES to tell the tale ..not only to fellow detectorists....but ANYBODY THAT WILL LISTEN hahahaha:rofl:.... and congrats to all who have found one...because lord knows we work HARD to find them...and once you do it kinda relieves the pressure of trying so dang hard....:thumbup::beers: good hunting to ALL in the up coming season and lets see how many more we can find to post here
 
Here is the one and only gold coin That I have found. May 16, 2005 was a good day for me. 8 inches deep using a 14 inch accelerator coil I could not believe how yellow it was. I found it in a yard half a block away from where I grew up in Rockford. Illinois. I have found some nice stuff in my 30 plus years of detecting but none of them comes close to this. Good Hunting. I understand your concerns. There are four of us here, all Combat Veterans and armed. Plus I have Three Attack Cats with really sharp teath. There is somebody at the hyouse 24/7/365. Never had any problems. Thanks...Jesse.
 
Hey Bob, I was robbed of all my coins, when I was about 23ish. To add insult to injury, they took my guitars as well as my drummers cymbals (value about $3000.00). To add even more insult, the coins they took were a shared collection between my cousin and myself. He had started me detecting at around age 12, and this was ten years of hunting a virgin amusement park, form the late 1890's. Hundreds of Barber Dimes and Indians, Mercury, Seated, V Nickles, Buffalo's even an 1898 Large Cent! I was devastated. I felt so guilty for loosing our collection. All due to some unemployed scumbag that I casually knew. Word gets around and probably gets exaggerated about the worth of your collection. He probably took $50.00 for it all. So I share your pain and feelings. It still rubs me wrong even today. It's a good thing I never saw him again. To everyone, be careful how easy it is to get your loot.
 
I've found 11 gold coins so far in my 30-ish years (not counting coins mounted in jewelry). Two $20s, One $10, one $2.50, one $1, and the six $5's. Here's the most recent one, from last Sept. An 1846 O $5.00. Locations of the 11? old-town urban demolition sites, beach storm erosion, stage stops, and a park.
 
Hi hope this comes through. I was detecting a ski slope and was at the top and a thunder storm came up quick so I headed down but kept my detector going and swinging it in front of me . I get a signel and hear thunder at the same time and the signel is a nickel so I'm thinkin do I chance digging it> I looked back and there was a clear spot in the sky so I dug the signel. First I come up with a nice heavey chain I pulled on it and out popped this a South African Kugaran on a gold besal. It was funny I have never seen anyone up there in three years of MDing but I looked around to see if I was alone and went right down the hill to my truck like I was a safe cracker of something. HH George
 
Most were aquired at request, or they had them for the purpose of saving them..Not many lost..though a few..(and yes, I can swear to that)...But mostly stray gold coins were issued in the Eastern States and in general were not pocket change..Even in coin caches it's rare for gold coins being part of the cache...
 
Gold coins for the California guys, Coppers for us East coast guys! Maybe we should take turns on the coasts, sort of like timeshares LOL!
