Hey Ronnie any word on the Gold Coin.I looked on the net for a coin like that and nothing.Maybe Dave on the Relic Forum would know.Did you here how old man Bechtler died.He was delivering a wagon load of gold coins up near Hendersonville. He came up missing and they found him and his wagon at the bottom of a ditch.Coins were gone.Be nice to found out exactly where it happened .I believe I read it in one of the Michael Henson stories.

Hey Brent, Nada, Zilch, nothing. It may have been a token. The "2" was bigger than the "5", it was heavy reminded me of a quarter and had the Palmetto trees on the back. and the date was 1840 1844 that is right in the middle of the Private Mint times however the only one I can find is the Carolina Eagle? I think that wast the name. Someone was nice enough here to send me a front view of the most popular carolina gold coin and to be honest it didnt remind me of that coin. Hell, I didnt have the thing in my hand long enough to really get a good look at it. Like I said they guy would not answer me yesterday, went to his house, bangend on the windows, honked the horn, yelled, made speech that I only wanted to see it, then hid around the corner and waited on the guy to leave the followed him, he knows my truck knew I was behind him. The only thing that really hurts, well hurts the most is I am more than sure it will end up in some pawn shop. The guy has no clue to coins, hes from England and just moved here, so his history of that year may not be up to date, No offense intended to our UK friends here. It may be worth a lot or it may be worthless. I do belive it was gold, because of the weight of it, it was very heavy for its size. Other than that I have no clue as to what it was or where it will end up. I just hopes he will atleast keep it instead of pawning it off to some crook. The guy doesnt even have a CP. So Im sure its long gone. I am glad I was one of few have been lucky enough to make such a find. One other thing on that note, figure my odds of finding another gold coin??? I think makes it pretty unlikley I will ever find another having found one, but who knows. Im not in it for the money anyway. One more thing to all if any of you find a Charleston Soda Bottle it is as good as gold too. Mucho Deneros for them things. Happy New year everyone. Thank you all for your help and support, it is really appreciated. Brent please be sure to tell Katy that I grew up..and tell her I said hello, and hope she is doing very well. I would like to know how she is doing. Tell her I finished school, went to college then Navy, then back to college now on disability from a gimp back...

What I do when a landowner is hawking me is I will only dig iron or shallow pennies and give them to the owner. They get bored and leave you alone after a while.Only 2 things can happen when you do what you did.1)What already happened to you,and 2)you find something nice, owner takes it or let's you keep it and then tells you that you've found enough. He'll tell you that he's going to get a detector and save the yard for himself.I learned that a long time ago.Hope it turns out well for you.Did the coin look shiny gold or did it have some green on it.Gold will come out of the ground looking like it was just dropped the same day.Dave

It could have been a private person mint. Some tavern owners or store owners made some coins.

Just jerking your chain Ronnie. If it is,I hope you get your half.Dave

Ronnie, that 'SUCKS A BIG ONE'. I feel really angry for you <img src="/metal/html/angry.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":mad">

Nah dont be angry, its okay. I just hate cowards if he had the testicles to tell me that he was going to keep it there would have been some respect, not much but some. Ya know? Thanks Ronnie

Thats what suprised me it looked well not much pocket wear I am thinking it was buried along with the slaves in like a in memory of type thing, it was right near the the slave graves. There were a total of 7-8 graves found and from what I understand not all were together. Thats why the gas company had to stop digging is because of that discovery. I am only guessing that who ever buried the slaves (African Americans) must have tossed that coin in there out of respect? I really do not know.

I wont ever see that coin again, I will bet on that, thanks for all your support though.
