Gold coins with the T2

I am hoping someone can offer some advice on searching for gold coins. I will be revisiting a site this coming weekend where I and another fellow treasure hunter found a couple of gold coins about 4 years ago. One was a $1 and the other a $2 1/2. We have revisited the site on occasion over the years and it still yields the occasional coin--not gold unfortunately--and dropped Civil War bullet, but not a lot. I have had my T2 about three weeks and want to try it out at this site. In particular, I'd welcome suggestions on initial settings to try out. The area is not too trashy, but there is iron in the ground. Thanks

Just my opinion, but i have been having good luck running 2+ tones, disc. at 21 , and diggin anything that repeats. Not sure where a small gold coin will come in at (haven't found one Yet) Good gb, sens. as high as you can and it's a no lose situation. Good luck..

Mark you may want to try sens. as high as you can get it, mode 2+ so you can here the iron, and disc. at 10 so you can hear all those gold coins. If you still have the gold coins you will want to put them on the ground and swing the T2 over then and see your ID number. I have a small modern gold coin that I will try out tomorrow and see what it reads. But the T2 will have no trouble finding a gold coin. The picture below is some small gold pieces that I had no trouble hearing. The smaller the gold the less depth you get.

Dick... Thanks for sharing your gold finds. The T-2 certainly can find small gold with the standard coil. The smallest one, at the 1:00 O'clock position is really an impressive find.

Mark, I put this 1987 1/4 gold eagle on the ground and ran my T2 over it at about 5 to 8 inches and it read solid pullab ( 63 to 68 ) mainly 65 and 66. The farther away the more the numbers jumped, so considering that you have found gold coins there before I would dig everything. The settings were sens. 85, disc. 10, and mode 2+. Hope this will give you and idea, good luck.

parrott, I didn't intend to give the impression that I found the gold nuggets detecting. I got them off the internet just for novelty. They do work well for testing a detector. I would like t pan for some gold, but never got around to it.

Dick... using bought gold for testing is a good idea. It will give you
some information on what to expect.
