Gold location poll

Hey folks - I was just curious what others experience has been in locating gold.. I would like to take a quick poll of locations that have worked for other people.

So far for me - soccer fields seem to be it.... I am going to guess parks is the number 1 answer.... Thanks in advance for taking the "poll"

parks number 2..lakes and swimming areas #1.
Parks can be any place from the sidelines of soccer fields.,sidel lines of basketball courts,playgrounds and kust any play people sit and take a break.
But swimming areas usually will produce more gold because they get into that cold water and their fingers shrink and the gold falls off and is gone.

Yup, near and in the water is number 1. Over dirt, my best numbers are on properties where I can identify where the cloths line used to be; or maybe still are! After that it is sports fields sidelines and along side walks.

Tvr, good point on the cloths lines. I always thought of cloths lines as just a good place to finds old coins that fall out of pockets. I bet a bunch of women lost their wedding bands handling and shaking out the wet cloths they were hanging. A lot people still used cloths lines as late as the early sixty's. In the fifty's most every household had a cloths line.

Well sports field sidelines seem to be the best for me but anywhere there's alot of activity your chances will greatly increase.Sometimes you have to think outside the box also and by that i mean think about the travel routes folks might take to and from point A to point B.Folks are gonna take the quickest and most direct route to their destination thus losing things on the way.Now even though the one find i found was not gold but a big silver ring it was found almost directly in the middle of a field.I did find quite a few years back a real nice 14kt gold wedding band right outside of the ladies bathroom just off in the grassy section,the most recent was found along a baseball field down about 5" An old saying i go by is "You'll find them where they are lost"and that could be anywhere.HH

Just to add 1 more thing.Don't go off like a mad man swinging in every direction,grid the areas and you'll greatly increase your chances of finding that gold and swing slower.

I find more lost Jewelry on a 1-1/2 hour hunt on the way home from work on a (active) soccer field, competition is fare less than Beach hunting, and you do not have any time restriction like Beach Hunting . I still do beach hunting when I go RV ing at the beach.

The trick to salt water Beach hunting is (correct timing) to hunt, like low tide/ late after noon, when all the Beach goers are leaving, and your there cleaning up all the loot!

I will throw in another location that is often over looked and there are a lot still around here in Southern Ca....
Bus stops or grass stips next to bus stops...and you can try the grass strips in parking lots like home depot where al the illegals hang out looking for day work.
Bus stops may not always have the strip at the curb. But I do hunt the grass adhacent tothe side walk and the cars in the parking lot next to the bus stop because the little kiosk that has seats often can not accomidate the people waiting for the bus. So they will take shopping carts and turn them on their sides and sit on them or sit on the grass.

14 gold rings and 2 gold chains in the last 3 years, most of them in the last 2 years after I learned a few things.

1 small gold ring, (my first), was in the sand at a small inland beach at a park.

1 class ring was in front of an abandoned grade school but I gave this one back and the owner lost it 1/2 mile up the road while he was driving and it bounced down an embankment and under a bridge.
How it got to the location I found it we have no idea.

1 class ring was in an open area used by scouts in a park behind a bathroom.

1 class ring was next to a picnic pavilion in a park.

1 ring next to another picnic pavilion.

2 rings were found in grassy islands dividing a parking lot at a high school.

3 rings and one chain were found in open areas of parks.

4 gold rings and one chain were found next to basketball courts which is now my favorite and #1 site to hunt.

Well I hit the courts a little harder this morning and still no gold but got 54 coins in all.
Hit a few Nickels and tabs so I know I wasn't Discing out any gold at the low Disc setting I was using. Still had fun though.

On basketball courts watch where they sit down in grass to rest,lay their jackets etc down ,backpacks etc.

Great real world advice here..freely shared. You will get very good with your machine if you focus on gold...high foil up into zinc..you will find all sorts of stuff and gain an understanding of what went on in that particular location. As I look back, totlots have been good to me, but so has the water, and the dry sand, and the edges of parking lots, sports fields etc....I would say when you switch on your detector and survey your hunting area, if you THINK gold, and go to the places your inner voice tells you to go, I usually mumble to myself, "theres gotta be a pony in here somewhere" be ready for a lot of junk and rotten zincs, but don't get discouraged, get as many of the viable targets in a potential "gold zone" and be ready for the occasional flyer out in the middle of nowhere. I'm way over due at the moment, but figure I'm gonna find some tomorrow!

I might also add here that I do consider myself pretty lucky in the fact that I have found 16 gold targets in a relatively short time in this hobby of only about 3 years.
However, luck isn't the only thing that can take the credit...the way I hunt has some bearing, also.
Even though I don't do this on absolutely every hunt, for the most part I consider myself a dig it all kind of hunter.
I didn't start out this way, but as I dug each and every great target that were not what they seemed to be I slowly changed over time.
The fact is that out of all the gold targets I have dug plus the many silver chains I have found every one was a complete surprise including one large thick silver bracelet that was a dead-on zinc penny signal, and every other target of these types were trash signals.

I have dug silver chains from iron on up into zinc and gold rings from small to large from foil to zinc.

The smaller gold rings that came in at foil were not foil, the the larger gold rings that came in at nickel and even the even larger gold rings that were lower zinc were all in reality trash signals that mimicked so much of the trash that I dig more often then not like different sizes of can slaw.
The tab signals that were actually gold rings are the main reason I don't ever mind digging every one I come across at a trashy, tab infested site.

Since we don't have X-Ray vision, (try as I might to gain this super power), if you want the best shot at finding silver chains and gold you just have to resign yourself to the fact that these type of targets will usually be disguised as trash and act accordingly.

Not only a ton of clad, but lots of garbage I have found around my basketball courts.
It is well worth it to dig all this garbage.
Where they sit, take breaks, lay their belongings is best, but thoroughly check behind baskets, too.

These are my best finds from 4 different courts in parks.
1 silver rope chain, 1 14k white gold bracelet, 1 gold ring with a diamond I liked so much I re-sized it and wear today, and that small heart ring was confiscated by the wife and she wears.
Oh yea...that 14k white gold ring with the 9 diamonds was appraised for about $1299.00.
