GOLD NUGGET!

Goldstrike

Well-known member
Here is a nugget I wanted to post and share with the forum members. My wife's Great Grandfather (George Washington Rose) owned a gold mine in Death Valley (California) in the 1800's and we have a collection of rocks etc; that came out of that gold mine. Here is one of them! I had a relative that also owned a gold mine in China in the 1800's so I guess this metal detecting stuff is in the blood on both my wife's side and mine as well! Of course we'll never consider selling any of the collection we have because of the history and memories behind them and fully intend to do my best to continue to add to the collection we have!!

Very cool and good history too. What does it ring up on the Safari? Not that I will find any here in Florida, just curious!!
Bunker

Bunker, it rang up a solid 7......I have passed a detector over it before and had a bit of a hard time picking it up at any depth even though I tried different settings. I have no problems with detecting gold rings but my experience has been that the Safari really isn't a nugget hunter but a fabulous coin, jewellery and relic machine. What has been your experience?

I wish I could run into something like that...

Go back to that mine it's got more... A lot of the old timers gave up way to soon and these old mines can be back as producers.

Yes, as the price of gold (and silver) continues to climb, these mines are becoming very worthwhile to prospect again. The old miners did not have metal detectors and GPS's to get back to gold producing locations so we have so much more advantage and should use the modern day technology we have to get to the 'yellow stuff' that is still there to be detected! Unfortunately, the mine in Death Valley is no longer in the family but we continue to look for opportunities to prospect where and when can! One place I would love to prospect/detect is Victorio Peak in New Mexico. Among all the untrue and semi-true treasure stories, this is, I believe is a true story that is well documented...unfortunately, White Sands missile base/proving grounds annexed it in the 60's? but there are still 40Ib to 80Ib gold bars out there in the desert to be found (they were buried by one of the 2 men that discovered them)...I tried to upload the story here but could not....google it for some good reading and 'Google Earth' Victorio Peak in N.M. and you'll see for yourself all the access roads cut around the peak etc;. as many people have searched for the treasure....H.H. everybody!
