I found a rock that has what looks like it may have some gold specks stuck to it. Is there a simple way to tell if it's gold?
It does not flake off like iron pyrite might. I cant rub it off. When I put my X-terra in prospecting mode - it rings off. It's not very easy to see it but it is definitely there.
I will send a photo when i can figure out the macro on my digital camera. It would take a million rocks like the one I found to make an ounce - but........

O - I found it in an old no longer used public access area that's owned by the city next to a stream - in a state everyone says has no gold to speak of - so - if it IS gold, what then? Maybe lots more in a different spot. If I hit the Lode - will I get arrested trying to sell it? Will they take it from me?

if the specks are large enough to test with a pin or knife tip. If it makes a dent or hole it may be gold. Steve in so az

It may have been hauled there in a load of gravel?
