Gold ore in quartz?

Every once in a while, I go out digging into a sedimentary cliff and collect the various quartz chunks I find. Well, one of these is a yellowish color, about one centimeter thick and it makes the pinpointer make noise on my ACE 250. Could there be some gold ore in it? Do you think I should crush the mineral to dust and pan it, or save it for a specialist's point of view? The quartz is very hard and heavy compared to the other specimens. It's veins are in the 1 cm vertical angle, not longways. There is alot of sparkle in it. I cannot chip it with pliers. Any ideas? I'll take a photo of it this weekend.

probably you need to do an assay... even it is pirite (FeS) often is a gols bearing ore... but who knows without proper investigation ?

For many, many years my late mother was a "rock hound" and from what I remember Gold can be found in Quartz and the Quartz can be dissolved in some type of acid leaving only the Gold ore . Woodstock

Take your sample and crush it all up real good, and then pan it out for the gold, if some shows up go get some more!
