Gold panning!!!

Hello All,

I am new to these forums and am looking for the best places to pan for gold. I was thinking of either Oregon or California. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate the help!

This is not really a gold panning forum but there is gold in the Roque, Applegate, Umpqua, and other rivers here in Oregon and a lot of the rivers in Cal..
 
The Klamith River in Northern California, from Iron Gate dam to Eureka has tons of gold in it. Make sure you have permission to pan any river, most have placer claims every inch of the rivers. You may just get shot for claim-jumping. At todays gold prices a few small flacks are worth 100.00 dollars.Here is some of the gold I took off the Klamith rive with a detector.high banking and bedrock sniping.:surprised:

Either state is good. Should get better in California since the maggots in Sacramento outlawed dredging. Which place are you closer to?

Yes I do belong to the New 49er's been a member for several years. You can mine all the gold you want and keep it all. I bought me a claim here in Colorado and have been doing good here as well. Just bought a Garrett Infinium to use on the bed rock and high bench gravels.

That is a nice pile! How about some stats? How much gold is actually there? How much does that big nugget above the quarter weigh? What a beauty!

Well I know this is not a Gold mining forum but a lot of the gold, bigger pieces was found with a Garret MD. So I guess it is kind of Metal detecting. I took me just over 2 1/2 months out in Happy Camp, CA. to get the gold. LOL
The total weight is just over 18 oz, the biggest nugget is a little over 3 oz.The stuff that looks like wire was found in bedrock cracks I used my MD to find a lot of that, most of the smaller stuff was high banked out of bench gravels of virgin gravel beds. I found some on old Hydraulic mines. Where they used large high pressure monitors to wash down the the old river deposits the way they recovered it was real inefficient so a lot of gold is still in the tailing's.
I did use a Small Keene dredge in the creek claims and on the big river to get some but that is a lot of work. It was one of the most fun time have spent in life, I loved it out there being a 49er.

Wow, what a haul! I'd sure love to hold that 3 ouncer in my hand. How hoarse was your voice after screaming for hours after you found it? As for whether your posts fit the forum I would say they certainly do. Treasure hunting, metal detecting, gold prospecting all fit in my opinion. Especially since you used a detector to find some of it.

I have more questions. What do you do with it all? How much over actual gold value is that big nugget worth as a specimen piece? How pure does it assay out?

I certainly hope you keep posting. It is a dream of mine for some experienced gold hunter to show me the ropes some time. Just once, I'd just like to be in on the hunt even if I didn't get a share of the loot.

My wife and I are flying into Sacramento CA in October to find some gold. We were wondering what are some good locations in that area. We have been told that there are some
good spots near Auburn and Cofax. We are flying from Charlotte NC and would like the biggest bang for our buck. Does anyone know or have any suggestions?

We would definitely appreciate any help!!

Up north on the Feather, Yuba, and American Rives near Yuba City/Marysville. Here are some nuggets found on the banks of the Yuba about three years ago ith a Garrett.

Yeah years back when Dave was still publishing his magazine I was his field test editor. Did you know Marcie Stumpf when she was still alive? Sure hated to see her buy the farm.

Yes I did know Marcie she is missed and remembered by all who knew her and her great stories, hard to believe it has been 3 yr.

Most of the big nuggets are in Jewelry for Mama:cheekkiss: she likes Gold. I gave my grand kids 2oz each as a start to their college fund.
Specimen nuggets are worth more than gold values it depends on type, size and market. The rest has been traded to a local refinery, for their bullion coinage. It is easier to sell or trade gold bullion than placer gold.

I don't know for sure where you can prospect around Sacramento I don't live out in CA. I think there are a few public places some where up on the Yuba. There are a few places that have pay-to-pan deals.
I just wish I would have had my Infinium that summer. The hot rocks are a real problem on the Klamath River area. I think I could have did 20-30% better. If I don't sell my membership I will be going out to the Klamath again next year I will be using the Infinium a lot. I should do at least as well and most likely better:detecting: I have only had the Infinium for about 10 day and been up to my claim here in CO. once. I have found a few small nuggets and I.m getting better with it. Here is a snap shot of the what the new Infinium found at the Colorado claim. Just remember these are huge for Colorado placer gold.

Great nuggets. I'd still be whooping it up if I found even a tiny nugget. Unlikely if not impossible where I live.

Nice of you to take care of the grandkids. I hope you get to take them out prospecting from time to time. I love detecting with kids but have learned that an hour is about as long as their interest holds.

I got lucky and found a 2 1/2 dollar gold coin in a 14k bezel which is my favorite ever find. It would take a big diamond ring to top it.
