Hi I was Mding in a park and found part of a necklace, about 7 inches long, it says 18k on the clasp and it has a security clip on it,, heres the problem. It is tarnished,,,if you scrape it with a knive blade its nice and gold colored, the weight is right but I thought gold didn't tarnish? How do I test it to see if it is gold??HH George

Gold shouldn't tarnish!

Maybe take it to a jeweller to get an appraisal.:detecting:
 
Gold should clean up easy enough but it can be tested, I found a gold ring 12 inches on a beach that was black with minerals.Used electrolisis and that worked. I would think a jeweler could check it for you.
