Seeing otheres here asking questions I figure I'll ask and see if I have a problem or not.
Is there a simple way to check the notch feature ?
If I set the disc to below nickel. Will it still notch out tabs ? or do I need to be right near nickel for the notch to work ?
.

Leave the disc at the mark below nickel.Do not worry about the width control. The knob on the upper left.Set it to three o'clock for a start. Now switch the detector toggle to narrow.Tabs will begin to be rejected. Then go to wide.Try a hunt in narrow and wide.I hunt in wide all the time.Try this Jim.Set your toggle to wide with sens as high as you can.Set the width control to 3:00.Experiment with that notch switch Jim.You will really learn to like it. :-D

The notch will work anywhere above the area that's not discriminated out . The best thing for you do is place a nickel, zinc penny, screw cap and bunch of different types of pull tabs on the ground and start experimenting with a lot of different settings. Reading the manual is a good starting point. Also watching 53Silver's videos is helpful.

Keep in mind, you can't notch out something that has already been discriminated out.
