Golden Umax Redesign?

Last year I bought a Golden Umax that is currently not working, and is probably beyond repair. However, I recently purchased another and the first thing I did was cracked her open to trace the PCB and noticed that when comparing it to my other (older) golden there are some changes. One obvious change was a beefed-up threshold pot (Thank you Tesoro). But there were some other changes as well. Was this a redesign? Were there any performance enhancements made? It's been a while since I used the first Golden, but I did notice that this new machine seems to handle the 12X10 concentric a little better.
