Golden uMax Tone upgrade?

Bryan V

New member
I just recently bought a Golden microMax off Craigslist and shortly after found out these are a hot item now.
Anyway I'm assuming I have the old tone model. It has the older style speaker with holes. (My favorite style)

I was wondering if there is a benefit to the New Tone upgrade besides being easier to distinguish between tones?
Any down side to making the change?
I'm going to send it in to Tesoro for a check up and new threshold knob fix anyway.
The tones are easy for me to distinguish as they are but was just wondering if there was something more to the Tone update.

I got to tell ya. The first time I fired this thing up and threw out a bunch of different targets on the ground I was a little shocked at first.
I'm so used to a Tesoro just making a one tone beep it was truly a bizarre but exciting experience hearing all the different tones.
Really neat little detector.
Thanks,
Bryan

Well, apparently according to people here on the forum, since they (Tesoro) no longer have the program that went with the "new tones" Golden Umax, people are out of luck. Also, if anything happens to that circuit board, then the detector can't be foxed due to the lost program.

Hopefully you didn't spend a lot on it.

No I don't have much in to it. The tones seem fine to me anyway. I was just curious if there were other differences besides the tone spread between the two.
Thanks.

There is a difference in tones two and three of the four total. The new tones one had a distinct difference. Now for the record, I do not own one of the golden umax's. I thought about buying one, but the prices are VERY inflated and other tesoro owners who are specialists in the brand will say so as well.
