Golden uMAX

I picked up a used Golden uMAX from a fellow hunting bud. I have predominately used Whites, MXT and classics, but I wanted a light weight detector that would be easy to swing. I like the tone id though several are pretty close. Best feature is the adjustable filter or notch IMHO. I used it hunting this last weekend and it was a fun machine to me. I don't believe it is their deepest machine but so far I really like it. It turned up a nice .925 butterfly charm on the Saturday hunt. Hello to the Tesoro forum and HH, TonyTX

Hi rmptr ... Glad to hear there are some Whites users here! I've always liked the Tesoro's but I just never got one until this one. Nice light weight and easy to swing all day long. It also came with the smaller 5 inch coil as well. Seems to have pretty good discrimination from what I've seen. Thanks for the welcome and I hope you get to try one out soon! HH, TonyTX

you should enjoy it here, pretty laid back and depth is not the main subject. What counts is performance and enjoyment. and yes, I do own a Whites.

Welcome.

I just use Tesoro uMax. Weight has a lot to do with it. I've had BH and Garrett in the past. I've never had a Whites. I always thought they were too expensive. The only metal detector places around here are Wal- Mart and a hobby shop that sells only Whites and no one there knows anything about them. They sell them for the MSRP. $700 for an M-6.

It just so happens I met a fellow today that was thinking about buying one and I talked him out of it. As we were talking I was recovering targets. I can do that in a wood chip tot lot with out bending over except to pick up the target. I was complaining because my Killer Bs just broke and I was not using headphones.

I picked this up and some coins while we were talking.

He asked me what I was using and I told him a Tesoro Compadre. He asked what I paid for it, and I said $100. He said, " what! I was just fixing to pay $700 for one. "

I told him mine was used and it would cost 152 for a new one. Life time warranty. I think I just sold a MD. lol

Hi Tabdog ... Too bad about the Whites there. My MXT was used when I bought it a few years ago. Quite a bit better price than a new one! I can't imagine paying full MSRP on any detector. Sounds like you gave good advice! Those Compadres are good performers and have a good price too. Life time warranty to boot Nice finds there. Sounds like you did good. I'm looking forward to the lighter weight of the Tesoro. My arm wasn't tired after two days of use. Not so with the MXT. Plus I like the small 9 volt versus the others for my Whites. dog sold me in a way also along with a few others.
Today was my second time swinging the Compadre, on a short hunt thanks to the rain.
I got skunked on the first time, but swung a few other machines in the same area (flower bed area) so I see no fault there. Just a handful of nails and bits of foil - and not a single tab

So this afternoon I got a short swing time in using the Compadre and got 2 dimes (clad) and 2 pennies in a trash and nail dump area. That's not much but the hunt was short and finds are far and few in this area. Once in awhile I'll get a wheat or a merc or something, but this area takes patience. The ground was real soggy today and is starting to hold rain water on the surface.

Compadre 2nd impression - Under the conditions and for a short swing I feel the Compadre did well. I think it's going to be another one of those little Fun Factor machines like the Silver uMax. No it doesn't have all those bells and whistles, but neither does all my other machines. I will say one thing - the Compadre doesn't have to many knobs and switches or layers of menu's.
I'm out to have fun and the Compadre was just that.
