Goldfields relics

Hello all, here are some relics that I've found on the goldfields here. Mounted on painted canvas board. At the top left corner is a tattooist's needle, the one with the ornate handle and word Paris on it. The round vial just below contains some gold bits I panned for. Other relics here include thimbles, jewelry, purse parts, buttons, clock keys, fob watch chains, cutlery and buckles. Hope you find it interesting.

it takes the joy out of sharing your finds too I suppose. I think it's great that you won the trophies. It's nice to have some reward for the effort put into detecting, research, etc. I personally find it very rewarding just digging stuff, and doing a bit of research on the relics. I don't always get the answers I'm looking for, and that's when I ask for help from the forums. I've noticed there are a few who have a wealth of knowledge on artifacts, and know the right places to look for the info on them. So I appreciate help when it comes my way. I knew you were detecting an old army site for some time now. The results from the hunt have been amazing! Just looking at your photo tantilises the detecting spirit in me! I also mounted on canvas some of the badges and buckles I found, but I used the wrong glue, and I'm going to try and take them off, without damaging any of them, and remount on new canvas using a silicon based glue. I should've done it in the first place. I notice you've got your coins laid out on paper, are they stuck to it? I catelogue all my coin finds, and put them into an album, with the info on them behind each coin on a bit of paper. That way it's easier to store them, and I like to bring them out from time to time, to look at them. I've also got a box full of cutlery I've found, and am wondering how to display them. Any ideas? I've also read about your dog tags being returned to their owners. You went to a lot of trouble to do this, and it's commendable Stan. Well, hope you have a great end of year's detecting spree! I'm looking forward to breaking up this Friday for the holidays! Got it almost all worked out, detecting, detecting, bit of scuba and diving, fishing, and lazing about......

Hello Angela. I pasted the finds on sheets of thick cardboard bought from the newsagent. I used blue tack (like plasticine) to hold the items to the cardboard. A little bit about one eight inch diameter in size. It held on well even after a couple of years. It doesn

Stan, that's a pretty impressive collection you have there. I'm sorry to hear about all the "sour grapes" you got from your detector club. Jealousy can be a terrible thing, and I'm sorry if it got the best of them. You must either be really good or you've spent a considerable ammout of time in the field or both. That's quite a bit of stuff. I'm glad to see you and Golden consulting on this stuff, like the glue thing and such. Hey, let's face it, we can all learn a lot from each other here, so keep up the good work, and keep on sharing!:|
