Just wondering how people were going with their
projects.

Waiting from some elements from Mouser and Digi-Key.....Hope the next week I can assemble the Goldpic and test ....

I have made a 4 inch by 14 inch coil and I haven't seen a big difference from the other coils I have made. I am waiting for some others to make bigger coils for the goldpic. I want to see if I built it correctly or there maybe a better and cheaper way. It does work for those out there that have tried to build this detector. Rick S

I built the goldpic and it does work. I tested it with the coil specified in the plans. I then built Erics front end circuit and put the same coil on it. It appears that Eric's front end circuit is a little more sensitive. I did boost the front end circuit by substituting a 1Kres for the 2.2K resistor. The goldpic does work though. I look forward to what Eric finds in comparisons to his own detectors.

PS. for those in the US who are substituting the transistors, I have found that the substitues that were recommended in earlier posts work but have a different pin configuration and my MOSFET and coil got very hot staying on all the time <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)"> Once I switched the transistors around, everything came to life. I would also suggest either adding a volume control or using headphones with a volume control built in because the first time it went off I thought I was going to hit the roof it was so loud.

Thats sounds good about Eric's front end circuit. I wish I knew enough about this stuff to see if I could adapt Eric's circuit into the goldpic. I am waiting for Eric's relpy on the goldpic his is building. The PIC chip does make it difficult to do anything with the circuit. Maybe somebody out there can tell me if it is possible or not. I think not, but you never know until you ask. Thanks Rick S
