Goldquest ss can it be made more sensitive?

William

New member
I have a used Goldquest ss I bought, it really hammers my ears when I tested my gold wedding band, but my wife has some gold earrings that it will not respond to, can the delay be lowered to make it more sensitive to them? I set the detector to its shortest delay but it does not respond. I have a vlf machine and it will respond to the earrings any suggestions? Thanks William

I tested with the setting you suggested but no luck. I do use the 11" mono coil.
The earring is 14k and is thin. I hope the picture will give you an idea of its size. Thanks William:shrug:

William.

The Goldquest SS should be able to detect that ear-ring as I have a number of them that I have found.....identical to the one you have in that picture and all found with my GQSS.

Can you not get any response at all...:unsure:

My suggestion would be for you to send the Goldquest in to me for a check over, and include the target. There's no guarantee implied, but it would be fruitless to try to answer "Why" without having it myself to check out.

I'm not certain just exactly what the target is made out of, but it should give a response to it I believe.

Mr. Bill

Hi William,

Does it have a serial number? A few changes were made since its introduction, but nothing that would affect its basic sensitivity. The highest sensitivity is adjusted to be about optimum on a beach that is saturated with salt water. Any higher sensitivity and you would get too much signal from the beach itself. Most VLFs do not perform well in this environment. A health check by Mr Bill would be a good idea.

Eric.

Hi William,

Do you have the serial number of the Goldquest? A few changes were made since its introduction, but nothing that would affect its sensitivity to small objects. Sensitivity has to be limited for use on a wet salt water beach, otherwise you get too much signal from the beach itself. However, the Goldquest works fine in this environment, where VLF's often struggle. Let Mr Bill give it a health check

Eric.

Hi Eric, Thanks for your reply. the serial # is 0206ss106 or the ss could be 55 not sure. Hope that helps. I think I will send it in to Mr Bill for a checkup and if I can get my wife to part with the earring for a while I will send it too.
I do most hunting in fresh water and on land, I have found rings and coins with this detector it is very sensitive, but puzzling why it will not detect this size earring. Thanks William

Hi Mr Bill, When I send the goldquest in for a checkup do I send the coil and control box only or will you need the rods too? Where do I send it to?

Hi Tony, if it does respond it must be so slight I can not tell. I too think that it should give some response, by the size of it. Thanks William

Hello William,

I believe the reason your GQ won't respond to the ear-ring is due to the split in the ear-ring, Even broken gold rings not connected will not be detected by the GQ.

Squeeze the earring together so both ends of the earring touch and scan across the coil, This should cause a reaction :)

Keep us posted,

Hi Paul, Thanks for the suggestion, my wife would be upset if I bent her earring. I will send it to Mr Bill with the detector and see what he can find out. Thanks William

I think you will notice a bit of a change, it was a tad out of whack. :)

Keep us posted on the results you get with it.

Thanks

Hi Bill, would you mind explaining a little further? did you wack in on the side of the case with a hammer and it perked up or threw in on the floor and said work or what other magic trick did you preform???LOL (the inquiring mind wants to know)Thanks...Don

Someone played with the internal adjustments. I guess they expected by turning a couple of screws they could improve on the way Eric set it up, wrong !

We set it up on the scope, and put everything back where it belonged.

Mr. Bill

Thanks Bill! Maybe that will be enough warning for people!!! only let an expert touch it and there are only a few in the US. Don
