Goldquest SS have a discrimination with DD coil?

There is no discrimination with the Goldquest with any coil.

It is not the coil that governs the detectors ability to discriminate.

When I say NO Discrimination with it, I'm referring to discrimination such as in VLF detectors.

One can retard the pulse delay control on the Goldquest, and discriminate out lower conductive items.

Hi John,

There is a little iron identification ability when using a DD coil, but it is very limited and only works on very shallow iron trash. Now, by identification I mean one can tell the difference in some cases simply by the target signal.

The DD coil will generally give a double blip type signal on a piece of iron that is very close to the surface. Also, iron objects seem to be a bit wider because of this feature. Basically what happens is the iron signal reverses when the object is very close to the coil.

A good way to practice and tell is to take an iron washer or a nail and place it on the ground. Also place something like a nickel and maybe a small piece of brass nearby also. Now, pass over all of them with the coil at different heights and different speeds and one can generally tell the difference with a little practice.

Unfortunately, when the iron object is deeper, the signal is still wider but the double blip disappears.
