Goldquest SS V2 first impression

this afternoon when I got home, there was a box waiting to be opened, Paul(MA) had done an extra nice job of packing my GQ V2, to make sure it did not get damaged during shipping and I appreciate the extra effort, Paul if your reading this thanks again.

The first thing that I noticed about the GQ V2 is how well it is built, this little unit is just dripping with quality, fit and finish is first rate. The next thing I noticed is how light it is, this one can be belt mounted and feels about the same weight as a multi purpose tool. I can carry this PI unit around all day with no problem, this means more time hunting.

Eager to do some testing, I pulled out some hot rocks and minerialized sand, that I had brought back from the areas where I will be nugget hunting. The GQ V2 did not make a peep over the hot rocks and only had a slight increase in threshold hum over the hot sand, which was no problem to tune out. Since the hot sand had my attention, I burried a couple of small nuggets about three inches deep in the sand and ran the GQ V2 over the top and got loud and clear signals, evan with raising the coil three inches above the sand.

I am going to practice during the week and this weekend do some serious nugget hunting, The Goldquest SS V2 is a well thought out design, with above average build quality, plus the customer service for these detectors is outstanding. I bought my GQ V2 used and Mr. Bill with Surfscanner Detectors has been amazing on offering assistance on how to use and care of my machine.

Hi Don

My testing was done with an 11" mono coil, I have a 11" DD coil that I will most likley use in some areas. My test are not real scientific, plastic bowl filled with hot sand, with 12 grain size nuggets on the bottom. The GQ V2 is hot on gold, I really liked it sounding off on the nuggets buried in the minerialized sand, the VLF detectors I have used on the same sand, and hot rocks all went crazy.

You will find the DD to be the best in most gold ground, it will run smoother than the mono in hot ground, good luck to you, it is fine detector. Don
