Goldscan 4

Hello:
I am purchasing a used Goldscan 4 and I understand it is a great instrument for the beach and the near shallow water areas.
My question is, since I can't purchase two units at this time, how well does this PI perform upland above the beaches. Meaning in the woods and in fields and/or rocky outcrops if non-iron enriched.?
Many thanks for your thoughts.
Ty

Hello Ty,
The Goldscan 4 will be good both on wet or dry beaches, and also further inland. It has ground balance circuitry, so even if the ground has iron minerals in it, you will be able to cancel out the ground signal.
The other valuable feature is the built in probe, to which you can switch over to pinpoint down hole.
Eric.

Thank you Sir:
I am looking forward to having this unit. I believe the meter should serve just fine while not using headphones (I want to hear the rattlesnakes while in their territory). I know this PI is designed to be used with headpnones, but I am hoping the meter will alert me when I need to switch over for more serious hunting. I am told that I may be able to use one-ears or attach a clip speaker to my shirt pocket. Any thoughts here?
Many thanks.
Ty

Hello Ty,
The Goldscan has a built in piezo speaker in the box under the armrest. This is muted when the phones are plugged in. Alternatively you can use a one-ear phone. Impedance of phone is not critical. Anything from 8 ohms upwards should work fine.
Eric.
