Could you, would you post the owner's manual for the Goldscan on this site...some of the info is hidden on Mr. Bill's site...
Is the charging system included with the Detector?
Is it a 110 and 12 volt option?
Where can extra battery packs be purchased and approximately how much are they?
Is there an option to use regular AA batteries like the GQSSv.2 uses?

There is no owners manual posted.

The charging system is provided with the detector. It is a 110/120 volt unit.

The only way to charge it in the field would be to have a inverter in your car or truck that supplies 110/120 volts AC. The battery in your auto isn

Thanks Mr Bill; yes, the site is repaired. Next Question, will an inverter convert 12 volt battery power to 110 volt. If it will, how many 12 volt batterys whould it require? Also, what is the charging time for the power pack for the GS-5. I am curious why a system/power supply similar to Minelabs PI detectors was not the choice. Charging when out in the bush should of been a consideration for the Gold Scan5 if it is intended for serious nugget hunting...

Please be patient, as you can see from my questions I am not the brightest blub on the Christmas tree. You mention an inverter that plugs in like the Minelab car charger...where do I get it and what will I be asking for. If I can charge the battery off my car system without draining the battery unduly then I am back to being very interested in the GS-5...not being a technical type person I misunderstood what you were saying...I did not intend to criticize, only to get all the info I need to be certain I can use the GS-5 where ever I may go nugget hunting...

Hi Fred,

The battery is 14.4V, 3.8Ah, Nickel Metal Hydride type, so you would need a charger to suit that. The normal charging current is 380mA, but I believe that there are fast chargers on the market that can be used with care. If you find what appears to be a suitable fast charger, let me know the spec before you buy. The charger supplied with the GS5 delivers 350mA, so it is super safe.

Hi Fred,

What you will need is what is called an inverter. They typically plug into the cigarette lighter socket and will convert the car's 12V DC to 120V AC. Inverters are extremely common today and can be found about anywhere including Kmart, Sears, auto parts stores, Harborfreight, etc.

Because the current requirements of the GS 5 battery charger are so low, you do not need an expensive inverter. Most likely, one in the $30 range will suffice. Here is a link to pic of one listed at Harborfreight.

This is a link to an modified sinewave inverter capable of providing 175 watts. It sells for $29 and should be more than powerful enough for your needs of charging the GS batteries. If the link doesn't work, just search the site for inverter or go to the Kmart or Sears website and search for the word inverter on either of those sites. You should see several listings. The GS 5 battery charger charges at 350 ma so the power requirements are probably less than 10 watts total. As such, most of the cheaper inverters will work.

Since most inverters are very effecient and the power requirements of the GS battery charger are low, there will be little drain on a car battery. However, I would start the car on a daily basis to charge its battery.
