Good find and some good news.

I think it's Gene who finds a lot of small gold on the foil notch. My memory ain't what it used to be so if it's somebody else, my apologies. That said I dig a lot of foil signals and I don't think I've ever gotten a keeper on that notch. Today I did, sort of. It was a strong signal and deep. I was sure it was going to be a wad of foil and I already had a pocketful of junk. It turned out to be a school ring, which is sadly some type of jewelers stainless steel. Made by Bale. The alloy is called astralite. I searched both the company and the alloy online and didn't get any good hits. They must be out of business. Class of 1989, St. Anne School, Men's size 10, no initials or engravings. I have no idea where the school is but I 'll figure it out. It's not local.

I later found a religious medal that looked damaged on the back. After I got home and cleaned it up I saw that what I thought was damage is a small piece of cloth behind glass. It reads. "LINEN TOUCHED TO THE HOLY TONGUE OF THE SAINT - PADUA -" I am very excited about this medal. I love finding Christian Medals even as much as gold rings or silver coins and to find one this special is a treat. Here is a link with the exact same medal and the story of Saint Anthony of Padua. Click the link if you're interested. It's a neat story.

I also found the normal stuff. Ton of clad. A few wheat cents. Some dog tags. Junk earring. You know the drill.

I just checked my email and found that an article I had submitted to Lost Treasure had been accepted. It is not the best one I've written but it is OK, I think, and will be in the January issue. It is nothing Earth shattering. I have a few more ready to go and one is really interesting (my humble opinion) so I hope that one gets picked up. Thanks again to Bill, John, and Mick for inspiring me to put some of my ideas down on paper for publication. On the topic of inspiration, you all inspire me with your stories, tips, and photos but those three guys and I PMed about writing over the past year and they allowed me to read some of their works in progress.

I also just went through my in-box and came across a few posters who have left us or just aren't posting as much anymore. Draaiorgel, Rosco, John West VA, Kipper, Treasurefiend, Oakman. Wish you guys were more active here. There are others but as I said up top my memory ain't what it used to be.

I usually check in about 2 times a week during the school year, depending on how busy my week is. I haven't had a lot of time to get out lately, and the weather is quickly starting to change. Might be able to get out this weekend, depending on school work.

Nice finds by the way.

Wow! That religious medallion is a real special find. I too would be very pleased to get it. Better send a nice photo to Garrett on that one too. :)

- - and it is far more than a simple "religious" or "christian medal." As you've learned, it is a devotional piece to the St. Anthony of Padua! In the old days, people made pilgrimages to get reliquaries. I would love to find one of those, and I'm sure there is some Catholic, somewhere, who is saddened at it's loss.

I wonder, though, how St. Anthoy's tongue is doing, today?

when i was about ten, i couldn't find my basketball. my mom got very upset that i had lost it and said that i had better pray to saint anthony for help . i didn't know who saint anthony was. my mom said that he was the patron saint of lost items. she also stated that the basketball better be found before bedtime. well, i prayed and about 5 minute later i remembered where basketball was and went and got it and avoided a spanking. thanks st. anthony. we have been real close since then. she didn't mention his tongue though.

Good stuff cwilk that medal is very kool!! :detecting:

Nice going Chris ! Yeah, it was me. I still say I find a lot of small gold
in the foil area. Any foil type signal immediately has my attention.
Maybe it's just where I hunt. Don't know. One day, I predict, you will
come up with a nice diamond ring that will read as foil. You will remember
what I said then.....you might not remember my name though.
Congratulations on getting your article published by Lost Treasure.
That certainly is an honor. Don't visit here all that often but sure am
glad that I saw this. Good hunting to you Chris ! Gene

I inherited a 2 carat diamond set in 18k white gold engagement ring that does hit on foil. It is just over 1.5 grams of gold and filigree (lots of little wiry loops) in design. It's the only ring in my possession that hits on foil. I'd like to find one just like it for sure! I dig all foil signals too. Most of my rings hit on the nickel notches of my 2500, though.

Glad you saw the post too. When I find a real keeper on the foil notch, I'll buy you a beer or two.
