Good PR for detectorists

New member
One of the local TV stations ran a news piece last night about a family from around Indianapolis who had a family member killed in WWII in Germany. He left Indy for the war and was missing in action shortly thereafter. His wife and two year old daughter never saw him again. For 63 years they have wondered what had happened to him. Last month, a man in Germany who is a metal detectorist, was searching an old forest battlefield for artifacts, and came across a dog tag bearing the name of a US soldier. He contacted the government authorities. They searched the area and came up with skeletal remains, not alot but some. They did research and contacted this family in Indy and told them they had found their husband and father. This family was very happy to say the least. The news made a point to make it known that someone with a metal detector found this missing person. This family was able to bury their husband and father in Arlington National Cemetery and put closure to a sad part of their lives thanks to someone with a metal detector who did the right thing with what they found. That is why we should try our best to return a missing item to its rightful owner if we can possibly do so. We never know what that item may mean to someone.

Cliff heard the report on the news and told me about it! So happy that the man notified the authorities and the family could put their husband and father to rest in Arlington! May this truly comfort them and bring them peace in knowing what happened to him although it is a sad situation...the ending is what it should be for the family of their missing loved one! God Bless!
