Good report on a park

DK

New member
Had contacted our local parks department superintendent a week or so ago about the use of metal detectors in the local parks. Having been a past president of the County Park Board here, I was not sure of the response I would get. After he failed to contact me, I was thinking that they were in discussion about the matter, and it probably wouldn't be good.

Here's his reply, that I received this morning:

Doug

You are welcome to use metal detectors in our park, all we ask, when you dig a hole, fill it back in and be courteous to fellow park users.

Mike Bottomley
Connersville Parks Department

That is a good report. If I can get the message out to other detectorists, and if they act responsible, this could have a lasting impact. Maybe Louisville will have a big change of heart. Have not heard much more about it.

Just though I would pass on this good news.

You should forward it on to the people in Louisville. Right now they are still stickong to their guns!

Got home from work and the Parks Department Super. had emailed me again. He said that no one from the parks department or the police would interfere with my detecting as long as I did not trash any area or cause problems with other park visitors. He said that I would not need any kind of permit or check in. He has invited me to stop by his office for a chat. Might be able to get more people from this area, who are responsible, to partake in the hobby. There is a possibility of maybe having a some of us with detectors do something in conjunction with the parks department. This would draw people into our financially struggling city. I believe that if we can be good detector diplomats we can have a positive impact for our hobby. Just wanted to pass on the new info. I also have the mayors support.

Hi Mike, Maybe he shouldn't as the Loisville mayor just might email or talk his mayor into closing the parks to detecting, so maybe leave well enough alone! DK has a green light to go, so let us not upset the apple cart and give him a red light! :) God Bless! Betty
