Got a coin cleaning tip, I haven't heard of before.

So my brother [ who justed started hunting this yr.] calls me up and said he read about the tip in a Treasure Mag. Soak a coin in Ketshup overnight. Thats it . So I tried somes Q's D's & Nickels in a pan. Worked on everything except the dimes. Must be the Acid in Tomatos. Haven't Tumbled with the Ketshup yet, but won't hurt to try. Any of you guys tried this?

Sounds a bit messy.
I use my Harbor Freight Rock tumbler
with Aquarium gravel from Pets Mart,
White Vinegar, and a heaping spoon
of salt. Cleans the dirty clad up in 45 min
to an hour. Without the salt it used to take
me up to 10 hours plus. You might run the
clad again without the vinegar, just water
an a drop of soap to rinse the salt out.

It might be the acids in the tomatoes but bear in mind that one of the ingredients of Katsup is vineager...I would lean toward both acids doing the trick. HH

I tumble clad and nickels with vinegar and salt in a tumbler with aquarium gravel. Usually about 30 minutes does the trick. I then tumble them in a vibrating tumbler with walnut shell to polish them up a little and cut the funky color that they get from the vinegar solution. However I did not like the results of doing it with Stinking lincolns as there was a gas build up that blew the lid off the tumbler tug. I just use soap and water with the gravel to clean Zincs and Lincolns.

George. Just avoid using ketchup on copper. It turns them pink and dull
