State lake front park you can onlly detect on beach.You better not be seen with detector tuened on when you leave beach area or at car making sure your battery is good.But bring a bunch of kids and you can dig s hole anywhere you want and leave them that,s ok ,yes i have kids no not goats children,and you can dig wholes and burry people as long as you uncover them,but show up digging a whole with a metal detector watch out.
 
I too detect parks at night a lot. Not necessarily because there's any particular rule or anything, but SIMPLY to stay off anyone's gripe-radar. You know, anyone can gripe about anything. And let's face it: our hobby has connotations. So the less visibility, THE BETTER. Kind of like picking your nose: sometimes ... uh ... you need to use discretion in your timing. Detecting is the same way.
