Seems to have turned out ok.
I attached a cord to the plug so I can haul the plug through the hole.
Fiddly, but does the job,it is difficult to run the shaft up the tube all the way ~ if you want a short shaft; as the coil cable compresses up into the tube.
But I'm happy with the result...[attachment 41560 X1mod.JPG]

Just like you do without a X1 probe, you feed the cable up thru the rods. See your manual for pictures. The only difference is that you pull the connector out just below the X1 control box. It gives it nice clean look and their is nothing to snag.

Thanks fellers,
another thing I did was rat-tail file a chamfer on the inside ends of the shaft to try and give the cable coil a better entry...[attachment 41564 Chamfer.JPG]

As in my explorer XS I used Armourall on the top end of the cable to make it "slicker."

By the way,if you armourall the lower cable that fits into the groove of the lower coil stem on the XS
~ it sure makes it an easy job to push it into and out of the groove...

next time try putting a fishing wieght on some string and drop it through the hole then tie it to your cord and pull it through.

I started out with the countersink tool,
but it started to "judder" and shake as it bit into the aluminum.

I bored in as far as possible with the countersink, and finished things off with rat-tail,and flat files...
