Got my 2500 !

I got my GTI 2500 a few days ago. I haven't had a chance to do much with it except practice pinpointing, it's either been raining or just too hot. This thing is a HOT ROD compared to the GTAx and there is certainly going to be a learning period.

The one thing I was not overly impressed with was the GI (Garrett Issued) dust cover. I found it bulky and cumbersome, it obstructed the outer edges of the display screen and because of it's close proximity to the grip it was always getting moved around so I made my own. It does not protect the entire box like the GI but it does afford a snug fit with a full view of the screen and it will keep the dust and dirt away from the buttons. Oh yeah, it aint pretty either.

I am not fond of the design of the stock cover up either. Mine caused coil malfunctions when installed too tightly and it is too small.

I never thought of it brfore but I am going to put my mother on the case. She is a good sewer and I'm sure she could match what you did. I only use a cover-up when the ground is muddy.

Chris, I used a piece of bookbinding leather and a piece of thick, clear table cloth. Along with the elastic band I also put a small tab of velcro on the lower corner of each side. The leather was oiled or I would have just contact cemented the whole thing together.

This detector was a big investment for me and I want it to last a long time without troubles so I plan on leaving my cover on all of the time. From what I've read the buttons' sticking is an issue and dirt will only compound that problem.

Congrats on the new machine!Nice environmental cover that you made. It looks professional. I agree, the Garrett made cover for the GTI sucks. I just use a sandwich bag.Happy Hunting!

I have to think back to my early days with the 2500 and I did indeed have trouble with the pinpoint button sticking on me at first. I think once you get used to it it won't stick anymore. It hasn't happened to me in well over a year. Every so often I thoroughly clean my detector. I never blow air into the control box but with damp q-tips and a thin plastic pick I get out all the dirt and dust in the crevices. The 2500 is solidly built and my only troubles were a battery box that kept slipping off (replaced free) and cracked arm pads (also replaced free.) I'm going to send it to Garrett for a thorough checkup before my warranty runs out. Can't hurt.

Hey Steve,

I can tell you that you'll find a lot of goodies with the 2500. It works great here in Pa. I could run mine with higher sensitivity around were I live and the preset programs work great as well. I run mine most of the time in the jewelery mode.

Yeah there's a bit of a learning curve with this one. Run your sensitivity at 6 or 6.5 for awhile and you'll have better luck.

It will stick if you tilt it when you depress it. As long as you push it straight down it won't stick.

Thanks again for the input, fellas. I'm hoping to get out Monday morning with my daughter before it gets too hot.

My next project is to rig up a sling for her. Though she lacks the patience for it she seems to like lt and at her age the days of wanting to hang out and do stuff with dad are numbered so I don't want to discourage her by not being able to swing this cannon.

Congratulations on getting a fine machine Just take your time, and you will find that the learning curve isn't really that long, especially since you already have experience using a GTAx model.
