Got my 2nd ligible Half Cent today.

New member
The first one was 4 years ago and the date was 1828.
I try to visit my Mother most every Sunday morning. We have coffee and chat for hours. When I leave there, I usually hunt my way home.
Today I took the new coil out to a very small section of lawn that I've hunted at least twice with the Slimline coil.
I got a few Wheats and other trinkets that I may show later. Then there was the proverbial memorial signal that I almost walked away from. I said to myself, Dummy ! and dug it. I looked at it and then it sunk in. Half Cent, and I brushed some dirt off and saw the words. I turned it over and my heart sunk. Got it home and gave it an olive oil bath. I'm sure it's going to clean up much better. I like the new Pro coil, easy to hunt with.
Made my day.

Thanks for sharing! I have not been out with the detector in over 4 weeks and I have to live vicariously through everyone in the forum!! Keep up the posts it is the only thing that is keeping me sane! :bouncy:

I usually will let the coins soak for days or weeks but when I'm done I'll wash them off with some warm soapy water then they turn purplish in color and dry looking and the detail doesn't stick out. I then started soaking them the same way but just wiping the oil off with a paper towel. Now the coins turn out having the oil residue on them and they are dark in color( almost black looking ). Any suggestions? Here's a pick of my half cent found with the large cent and the 1776 Irish halfpenny. Thanks,
Scott

Great find!

In your mom's (childhood?) front yard?

I thought I had a half-cent until a few last week--turned out it was a (extremely rough) V-nickle! :surrender:

I can't wait until Tuesday when my Pro coil gets here. Be interesting to see how it works.

Nice Half Cent!!! Always wondered why we don't find more half cents than we find large cents? I've got around 8 or 9 half cents and about 60 or 70 large cents. Makes no sense to me. Anyways, great coin. I bet you'll be digging iffy targets for a while to come:rofl:

Then I use a stiff tooth brush and with the coin wet with oil, I scrub the coin with enough pressure to wear down the coating. I also work it in my fingers making it kind of muddy, if you know what I mean. I wipe it down with a soft paper towel and rewash it in OIL, not soap and water. When most of the oil is wiped off I work it in my fingers again until it looks good.
Example: Pits all filled in with the coating that was on the coin.

This is Bronze I believe. Severly pitted. More to work on.

I'm telling everyone the same thing. It does what it's supposed to do. So far, the only problem is the snagging. I can live with that. I hunted woods Saturday.

Just think you might have not found that if you didnt have that new coil !!!!!!! Mine will be hear monday Ye Ha !!!!!!

She sure is an Oldie! Good thing you stopped to dig that Signal. The New 11" Coil sure works well also. I have one and it may end up replacing my Stock 10.5" Coils, but will have to do some Depth Comparison's before that happens. It goes Deep though and it does slice through the Trash really well. I think Minelab will be selling a lot of these New Coils. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you.
