INcredible finds, James. Silver hoards are getting to be a habit for you. How are you cleaning the silver coins you're finding? HH, Rich

Usually most of the Silver I find is clean enough to just wash the dirt off. Some of them turn Black from sitting in a Moist Enviroment. To remove this kind of stuff, I use Electrolysis. I use Saltwater and use a piece of Stainless Steel on the Positive Wire. I then put the Coin on the Negative Wire (both wires have Alligator Clips on them) and space it about 1" apart from each other. I use the Lowest Current on my Electrolysis so it will not Pit the Coin. Most of the time, the Black stuff rolls off of the Coin and then it just takes a bit of washing off and rubbing the Coin off on a Towel. Some of the Coins turn a very Matte Grey Color like the Standing Liberty Quarter I found. I hate finding Silver in this Condition since it is the Hardest to try and get Cleaned. Luckily, the Standing Liberty Quarter cleaned up pretty good after about 5 different attempts using Electrolysis on it. The Pennies and Nickels, I just use a Brass Brush with the Coins Wet and just scrub them. The Brass Brush is fine enough where it won't scratch the Coins. Peroxide is also a good method in Cleaning Pennies and Nickels. Just heat up some Peroxide in a Microwave until boiling and drop the Coins into it. Let them sit until the Peroxide is fairly Cool. Then remove the Coins and I use the Brass Brush to finish cleaning the Coins. What ever you do, do not put Silver in Peroxide. It will turn them Grey Looking. Thanks for looking at my Small Hoard from last Weekend and Good Luck and HH to you on your next outing.

James, 308 silver, boy that's something!:clapping:

I hope your lucky streak keeps on...

Lucky I live Down-Under, just a tad far for a detecting trip eh!

Can't even imagine a day like that...cant believe your silver count is so high..you too have been blessed with good hunting grounds..
Keep the post coming..it ain't winter yet mate!!

I do have some great hunting grounds for Coins don't I. Going to try and hit at least 325 Silver before the Ground Freezes. Who knows! Might get it this weekend but I won't bet my pile of Silver on that. I just wish I could pull some Gold out of the ground like you do at them Lakes. Might have to try Water Detecting some day before every site is worked over by the Water Detecting Crews. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH Mate!
