GOT MY G2 TODAY!!!

my G2 showed up today so i put it together and air tested it then went outside to my yard where the snow is melting. wow what a fast response time. i dug some targets. some aluminum, couple bottle caps and actually found a coin.. ok this is a true story..i was in my front yard and im hearing the nails in my yard...i have alot of old square nails, when right in the middle of several low tone grunts i hear a high tone...reading 78 to 84.. i was like no way ..i was using my small camping spade shovel since its my yard..i dug down about 6 inches and flipped over the large plug. i checked the plug and low tone grunt.. found an old square nail. checked the hole and still a good signal ..dug down 8 to 9 inches.. now its out of the hole!.. its a 1937 wheat penny. sweet... been over this area alot with every detector ive ever owned so finding goodies here is great. so the wheat penny was under the old nail by 5 inches or so. now this is exactly why i bought this detector. not looking to dig to china just wanting to find goodies around junk. going out tomorrow since weather will be 5o deg and snow will be melting..

You will see.... It truly is a "Magic Wand" Just listen for the mixed tones. I have dug 3 or 4 nails out of holes that had good targets, even a .22 cal lead bullet was found in the mix. Your other machines will gather dust on them, mine have!!!!!

Hello MO.
The G2 and GB's are amazing machines.
Only had chance to use mine for a few short hours so far but first impressions are really good.
The site i was at had one particular spot that was iron infested,multiple grunt,grunt,grunt on every sweep.
Two of my buddies didn't last long in this area after digging iron and they were using good machines but they moved on.
I thought this is a good opportunity to see what the G2/GB could do in areas like this.
I asked myself is all the talk of fast recovery and being able to hunt in spots really true or just bull, after all that's why i bought it.

I now know it to be true.
It's a fact you would get the grunt, grunt, grunt and then BING grunt, grunt.
The BING high tone would sound clear through the grunts and would stop you dead.
Go back over the spot and from in among the grunts you could get the high repeatable tone that meant a good target.
Many small and i mean little finger nail size buttons would come out from among the iron,two old George 111 halfpennies blew my ears off as did a Charles 11 farthing.

A couple of things i want to check out more as i ran out of time and daylight and you may be able to help are.

1. Occasionally i would get a good high tone signal from example N to S and back again but when rechecked from W to E it would give a lone grunt across and back again, a couple i dug turned out to be just iron but i am not convinced that some good none ferrous targets might be missed.
If you were hunting for just none ferrous would you dig any high tone targets that repeated in only one plane as described above?

2. I have not had chance to experiment with the descrim settings to see if the more you apply has any real detrimental effects on recovery and depth, i suspect it will??
The depth capabilities are still unknown as most of my good finds were in the top 5 or 6 inches.

I dig every time I get a high tone between or next to a low tone. The averages are there, better to dig than not. You really should not try to "Cherry Pick" when rellic hunting. I have not noticed any change in depth when raising the disc, even up to 65 which kills all foil. You will miss the small buttons doing that thou.

Thanks MO, 99% of the time being a coin and none ferrous shooter cherry picking is part of my strategy and the lighting fast recovery is just built for it!!

Being in the UK hammered coins come in from the 50's and there is not much problem with silver paper in the fields were i detect.

A disc of 40 takes care of the vast majority of iron and coke comes in at 42/43 with ahigh zingy sound that once you here a few times along with the numbers you know what it is.

I like to winkle out those none ferrous keepers.
