Got my MXT out for first hunt

Well not much to tell. :detecting: The weather cleared up today and the sun popped out so I hit a small park near the house I cleaned out about 2lbs of pull tabs and foil other than that not much to show. I started off with all the settings on P with a preffered threshold. I spent some time getting used to the MXT and dug all targets. I think I'm going to like this machine. LOL I found myself wishing it had a notch selector like my Garret 2500 but I feel this is much more responsive machine and it is much faster. It reminds me a lot of my old BFO machine back in the 60's/70's.

Good hunt thats what it takes practice , have fun . It is pretty hard for the MXT to pull you away from your Garrett I still like useing my Ace 250 when I get a chance use mine mainly for the tot lots and trashy places where I need the sniper coil .

Good Luck

Glad you were able to get out. After you break that MXT in, you will have that machine as your main detector. It's one sweet machine! Since you got all those pull-tabs out and the foil, maybe you'll find a ring down there somewhere. We bought my mom an ACE 250 shortly after they came out and she loves it. It's a great little machine and I was quite impressed. Good luck and thanks for posting. HH to all, Nancy

Well I hit the Park again today and I'. still in dig it all mode. I got a hit at VDI-95, What the heck? flip to prospect mode swing again no sound VDI-95 10% iron message. I freak out! I'm thinking boy just got this thing and now it is acting crazy. So out comes my silver test dime drop it on the ground and VDI+74 1c, 10C pops up nice crisp hard sound so pick it up and sweep the -95 target again and yep -95 so pinpoint it @ 2" and out comes the raptor and cut a nice 4" plug flip it in the Frisbee pull the Detector Pro pistol pointer and scan the hole, its in the plug. Scan the plug yep so start looking and find a gold stud earring no back. clean off the dirt and it is about .15-.2 ct diamond stud or cubi. Not sure yet. No this can't be it! So I scan hole again with the pistol probe, Noop, so I quick check the plug dirt, noop. So I stand up and scan the area with MXT nothing????? any one know what would cause this? Or what happened, didn't happen again the rest of the hunt.
Thanks for any help.

I will take a stab at this one and one of the MXT Guru's please correct me if I'm wrong, but most of the White's detectors has a place to put  finds. Those are targets the detector can not ID and assign an ID to. -95 and +95 are right next to each other in the VDI circle, which is not linear as some people think. +95 is the  finds place for the DFX and V3 that I'm more familiar with, but -95 is just one away, so I would guess that is close enough. Going from the + numbers to the - VDI numbers is called wrap around and is common in certain situations.

You did right by digging the target, there are some very interesting finds in the +/-95 land including caches. Your key to a possible good target was the probability of 10% iron when -95 should be 100% iron. You did good "C".

For you that have "The Edge" by Jeff Foster, you might be able to explain it better, but I haven't read that one.

Congratulations on your earring find, hope the rock is a real one..........

Very nice find and congrats on you for finding it , you didn't let it get away from you . Now take that lesson you learned today and put it in your book so you will know it when it happens again . Great job and recovery

Thanks Larry, It makes sense. I may try to get the book to get me up to speed a little faster.

Thanks for kind words Harold. I figure it kind of goes along the line of knowing what you don't know. LOL I plan to dig all even if I don't have a clue what this great little machine is telling me. Best way for me to learn is by doing.
