Got my safari today!

It just arrived about 2 hours ago and I was already in the back yard finding coins I missed with my X-70. I will give it a real test tomorrow when I go to a hunted out area where I know there are more coins to be found. Keep you all posted. Oh, and hello all.

Good Luck with the new machine, your gonna love it. Just listen close and go slow, you'll soon become accustom the the language.

Hi again, what is there available for rain/dust covers for the safari and is the recharg. battery pack worth the money?

n/t

Just remember that when you order the rechargeable battery stick it does NOT come with the charger. At least the site I got it from doesn't include it, make sure yu ask or you'll end up like me with a nice new battery with no charger.

Just get some AA NiMH batteries and pop them into the stock battery holder and you will be off and running! I use Sanyo 2700 mAh, which run the detector for 20 hours.

Congrats on the new Safari! Hope you find lots of good stuff with it.

I use Radio Shack 2100 mAh batteries and they've been working just fine. Cheaper than the Minelab battery pack too.

I have thought about getting rechargeables but not the minelab pack. From what I can tell from reading the posts the Sanyo rechargeables 2700mha with a battery charger is the way to go. I plan to get another regular battery pack. I haven't done it yet because I got 96 AA batteries about a month ago from Sams. Birthday present. Should last the summer for me.I have the rain cover on all the time because of the sand. The sand is hard on the screen of the detectors. I never use a coil cover because the sand gets in there so quickly causing falsing......Z

I took my new safari to an area I had hunted over and over with my X-70. Within the first hour I found a 43 merc, 56 rosie and a silver ring (all about 6") and the ID was 37 for all as well. There is iron in this area (rusty nails, etc.) and the safari saw right through the junk where as my x-70 could not. I did a noise cancel and was in c & j mode. I am impressed with the safari.
