Got nothing!

Last week, girlfriends dad mentions an old cemetery in the corner of his property (5 acres, mostly wooded). He takes me back, a neighbor has removed most of the headstones that haven't sunk all the way in the ground to try to preserve them. Two headstones are leaning against a tree, dates of death are early 1800's. I am salivating, thinking of trying to find the route people took to and from the cemetery (the idea of detecting over the graves just doesn't sit well with me).

Got there last night, spent 2 hours digging old nails, pie tins and LOTS of shotgun hulls and misc. bullets. Not a single piece of silver, not even an Indian or wheatie. I would have bet I'd walk out of there with a few keepers. Very disappointing.

Old cemetarys give me the willies. I have gone around them but never in them. There has to be a spot where the horses would have been tied up also. Look at the age of the trees around there. My own thought would be to go to where the youngest trees have grown. Good luck

I have hunted a few old cemetaries dating to the mid 1800s and have yet to find anything in any of them except for a button in one. I just get lots of shotgun shells like everyone else.

well I've detected an old cemetery and found very little. It was riddled with metal junk and as far as I can see - people don't loose many coins around these places. So don't feel bad - certain places just don't pan out. the only other explanation is someone beat you there long ago and hammered the place.

There is a chance someone was there before, but it would have been many years and darn it, I've got an EXPLORER!!! Thought for sure even it had been hit, it couldn't be cleaned out by old detectors. I'll try it again soon though.
