Found this half dollar size coin/token this morning and not sure yet what I found. Saw the One Penny and thought the date was 1867 and my old heart skipped a couple of beats. I have found a number of large foreign coins on this site and thought maybe that was another. Not so! In doing a quick google, quite a bit of stuff pops up with Freemason, Mason, Masonic and Philalethes, but yet have not pinned it down. ANYBODY KNOW? The other thing I suspect could be something to do with cosmetics??? The coin/token had a bit of depth to it, about 7-8" and was totally on edge on the edge of a sidewalk. It, in fact, was the last target I dug this morning. Along the way, I got 2 wheats, a 45 and a 56, 7 Memorial cents, 5 nickels, 3 dimes and 2 quarters. I had to do a frequency shift as the LTD had some emi chatter on this spot, but after getting the quietest frequency was able to run with sen. of 80, 4 disc. bp, 4h tones and a gb of 66-69. Neita has it right. This is a Royal Arch Masons coin.(chapter) The Royal Arch Masons are part of The York Rite which is a branch off of the Masonic Blue Lodge. This penny is given to a newly made Royal Arch Mason as a memento.

Thanks Neita and Barney. That is the first one I have ever found in 38 years of swinging, or have ever seen, for that matter. Thanks again. HH jim tn

My pleasure Jim. It was fun looking it up. I have never seen one either. It is a very cool find. One for the Treasure Box.

I was actually just looking at one that I found last year. Mine looks identical to yours except that mine says Fayetteville Arkansas instead. Nice find!

Hi Ex-Sox Each chapter penny will have on in the name of the chapter that issued it. There is a different penny for each chapter in th U.S.A. Alot of them--lol
