Got out detecting on Tuesday...

Pete in MI

New member
had been raining most of the night bringing the snow level down. I could see patches of ground and it was fairly warm...right now anything over freezing is warm to me.

Here is where I detected before heading into work:

Here is the meager finds: (All coins are Wheat pennies)

Looks like a valve cap off a bicycle (right side), some kind of cable crimp (center) and an whatzit (left)

The ground was hard so the only thing I had to break through the frozen ground was a folding military style shovel (mine was cheaper it didn't have the pick part on it just the shovel);

Put the shovel part at 90 degree angle...similar to the picture and hacked at the ground with it - making sure to not get close to what I was after.

I found something else too. I saw it from a distance...seemed to be big and domed shaped. It was kinda silver colored and the sun shining off of it made me comment :"What the heck it that thing?"

Here is a picture of it from a video cover...I did bring it home and is in the garage somewhere.

Its the item under the woman exercising... a Gunnar Peterson Core Secret exercise ball...and no I have no idea how it got out into that little wooded area at the back of the field I was detecting in.

Glad you were able to get out and do some detecting, Pete. Guess you can work on the abs with that exercise ball you found! I was able to go out detecting for a little while yesterday for the first time in quite a while. Was very disappointed that it was a total bust. Nothin' but a bunch of foil, pull tabs, and JUNK. It was an old house place (house still there) dating back to the 1920's. You would think someone would have at least dropped a PENNY!!!! The family says it has never been searched before, but I just didn't find anything worth while. I finally gave up and went back home.

hmmm the 20s when people spent their money on prohibition alcohol and the 30's when no one had money, the 40s with WWII, the 50s with the Korean War the 60 with Vietnam,,,is there a pattern developing here???

Dont know why you wouldn't find anything besides junk...maybe they had more junk than money??/ But still glad you got out.

think I am going to find a silver only program and use it, There has to be silver there,,,more than the few Merc I have found so far.

n/t

want to get a 10 X 12 S.E.F. coil. Should give me better depth over the 8 inch round coil I now use.

wrote my name on it is permanent marker and 'released it back into the wild' (blue yonder that is), and tell it to 'be free', if anyone would find it or if the air force would think it a ufo and shoot it down.

Too bad it isn;t a bright yellow....a floating smiley face in the sky would be fun,
