Got out park hunting with Ace and 9x12 coil,Sunray probes?

I went to a local park where I have have never found anything older than maybe 1960, even tho it is right across the street from a history museum that was a tavern dating back to 1850. Well, I got 2 older wheats, one I can't read the date and the other is 1935.Both were under 6 inches, heck, one was only 2 inches.Soil was grass/black dirt,a little damp from recent rains. I noticed the big coil was too hot or something as I had to turn down sens from highest position, down about 3 notches, even then it kept making noises all over. So,I just dug the repeatable noises/belltones in the coin range. At least it was easier to pinpoint now that I marked the coil and just ease the tip of the coil up to where the signal starts and dig there.
I may have to see how the stock coil does in this park and see if it is noisy too?
Anybody using the Sunray Pinpointer probe on their Ace 250? I'd like to know if its worth the 180 dollar price and how to use it? How is battery life with the probe installed? Does it add much weight to the detector? How much depth on coins?
-Thanks-Tom

hi tom. i use the ace250 with the sunray probe and love it.ive been using rechargable batteries from walmart and will last a long time.i also have the gtp 1350 and did have the probe installed on it but was so heavy, its 4.2lbs without the probe and the ace is 3.4lbs with probe.to be honest, the ace is my everyday machine.light and fast recovery.that probe makes fast work of coins.the 4 batteries in the ace lasts longer than the 8 batteries in the 1350. hope this helps you.

Hi Tom,

I also have an ACE 250 and Sun Ray probe. I actually love the Run Ray but I'm probably still a little resentful about having to pay that kind of money for it (I'm almost over it and still VERY glad to have it).

There is no doubt about it, the probe really speeds up recovery time and makes the ACE much more versatile. The probe is nothing more than a tiny 1" hand held mini-coil and a switch that selects between the ACE Coil and the Sun Ray probe. You're simply using one coil or the other and there are no new electronics involved. Therefore, there is essentially zero impact to battery life. I also happen to use rechargeables exclusively in my ACE and swear by them.

I just thought the unit was expensive considering that it's just a tiny coil and the sniper coil was only about $60 and the large coil about was $85. But... that's the way it goes!

I've got to give Sun Ray credit though, their product is very nicely done and integrates perfectly with the ACE.

The beauty of the Sun Ray is precisely that "to the ACE", it's just another coil and all of the built in ACE features work perfectly with it (discrimination, pinpointing, sensitivity, headphones).

Personally, I have never heard of anyone that uses a Sun Ray probe on ANY brand detector that didn't like it and I bet you would also.

Happy Hunting

Hope it helps with my pinpointing. Now, if can find me a buyer for my Treasuremate and Uniprobe pinpointers? Anybody interested?

Are these deep coins? I ignored them all Saturday. I heard belltones on either side of a dead spot. Didn't sound like those sweet double belltones in the bark chip playground, so I left em alone. Was that a mistake? Found the 2 wheats within a couple feet of these odd signals.

If it was. What you want to do is when you read what some one wrote and have answer or ? scroll to reply to message just below what u are reading. Now that sound is similar to what you are saying they were deep coin9 inches and were nick or corroded you would have to dig a few to see it was like the coin sound but like if a rock was in the way.swinging to right bell tone and a small space then to left bell tone space if you swing over it fast its bell tone then like a small something in the way and the bell tone.I have checked the holes for nails and pieces of iron and found nothing but the coin was deep. Then when your down that deep your cone is only about the size of a quarter. hope this helped good luck good hunting

You're going to love the Sun Ray. You can also detect with it. Works great up close to metal playground equipment where you can't even get with your regular coil without it sounding off. The company claims three inches for depth but if you whip the wand over a target you'll get another inch or two.

When you get a strange signal or one that doesn't repeat - twitch the coil rapidly over the target in short strokes. If it dings dig it.
