GQ Power Supply question....

I tried putting in a Lithium 3 cell 12.6 volt battery pack into my GQ and it does not operate properly.
On a newly charged pack, it would not turn on.
On a slightly discharged pack of 11.8 volts, it was highly sensitive,
The GQ seems to run better on the stock 8 cell alkaline battery pack.Even though the volt output is almost the same.
I wonder why?

Don't know JT. I have run the GQ on standard batteries, alkalines, nicads, nimh's and bench power supplies with no problems. The circuit is not voltage critical and even at 14V is functioning normally. I haven't tried Lithium batteries, but I don't see why that should make a difference.
Eric.

Did you check the voltage when the detector was turned on. Lithium Rechargeable batteries are only 3.2 volts per cell. If there are only three cells in the pack as you mentioned then you only have 9.6 volts to work with when fully charged and that may be below the threshold that the GQ needs to operate! You would need 4 cells to get to 12.8 volts.

I'll go check. I never thought of that as these are electric r/c airplane packs. they have taken as much as a 10 amp load. they are 12.6 volts off the charger and I do not expect that there is a much of a voltage drop. They are exhuasted at 9 volts. I used them in my surfmaster and they worked very well. But I will test your theory.
