Found more clad,I know silver is close.
The Question is what is the object to the right of the Chucky Cheese token,
it is a little bit bigger then a quarter and vary thin.It is roached, cant see any
markings using a magnifying glass.
The hunt was 3 hours a 1500 ft above sea level,SO whats the Brass thing doing up there:usan:

It is hard to tell from the picture, but, the brass item with the anchor stamp appears to be the tip off of a web belt, but, not necessarily military issue. The quarter sized thin disc looks like the remainder of a commemorative coin of some sort. I found a George Washington presidential commemorative that was worn almost smooth. Fortunately, there was still enough image and detail to determine the date, most of the wording and Washington's profile.......the back side was smooth, probably from its' origin.

Is it legal to hunt in state parks in NY? I thought state parks were off limits to metal detecting everywhere.....? I know you don't want to hit a state park in Texas.....not only do they put you in the clink, but, they fine you and take away all of your metal detecting gear.......this includes your pinpointer, shovel, tool belt, pouch(es) and anything else used for detecting!!

20 + years ago I use to visit Grafton, NY area quite often. One day I saw a conservation officer sitting at the front gate of the state park... so I stopped and asked him if they allowed metal detecting on the beach. Mind you, this is right around the beginning of October and the beach was obviously closed. His response, " NO, I wouldn't advise you to do that" I responded "Ok thank you for your time officer" and off I went. SO, with that being said, spudnuts I would research your NY laws concerning metal detecting in STATE parks. I don' want to see you get arrested and/or fined for being in there. - Jim

It's not legal to hunt in New York State Parks. You can hunt on the beaches in some state parks with a permit but the grass areas of the parks are off limits. That does look like a toasted large cent you have there.

Didn't want to start a fuss. It's just that it hit me that the title said "state park" and I didn't want to see anyone getting in a bind with the man. I really don't understand the rulings that ban detecting in state parks, so long as it is done with respect and concern for the surroundings.......leave it better than you found it. Seems to me that it would be to everyone's benefit to save and preserve history that would otherwise rot away, but, that's JMHO.

That's a good point Roland, and I completely agree. 98% of people who detect as a hobby fill their holes, remove trash from the area, and generally take care of their surroundings. It's the 2% that run roughshod over an area and leave it looking terrible that ruin it for the rest of us. I've never agreed with the no detecting in a state park law.

Just FYI ... Here's the NYS Park rules say regarding metal detecting:

"Section 372.7 Activities requiring a permit.
(o) Metal detectors. The use or operation of a metal detector or other mechanical device to locate buried or concealed metal. Permits shall be granted for use of metal detectors in designated areas only."

Bottom line is that if you do not have a permit issued and signed by the park office, you cannot detect and can be fined if caught without one. The same applies if you have a permit and are hunting outside the designated area(s). If you're caught hunting in a "protected" historical site within the park, you could also loose your equipment and end up in the slammer. It's also important to note that many of the State parks will not issue any permits for detecting.

Nice bunch of finds! Sad that you got jumped on by the people who never make mistakes. ...they really don't care about you...they just get some strange satisfaction out of quoting regulations and being PC. HH

I did down load a copy of the permit And called the park police.I will go back today and file a permit FREE
Only on the beach no exceptions!:nopity:

Cool deal spudnuts. Something is better than nothing. As someone mentioned, I was not jumping on you, I didn't want to see you get fined and / or arrested. Back when I asked the officer wouldn't even let me hunt on the beach. At least you will get to do that and maybe find a nice diamond ring! Get that permit and go have fun! - Jim

Where did you see anyone "jumping on" him? All I could find are posts (including mine) that were looking out for Spudnuts' welfare.........fellow detectorists that would hate to see someone get in a jam due to some politico's rules, NOT PC fanatics gaining any satisfaction out of some clarification. I think it is great that he now has the protection (permit) to keep him out of trouble. On the other hand, I guess we could have all kept quiet about regulations (instated by people other than ourselves, the REAL PC folks) and waited for his post about how he was "jumped on" by the man and lost all of his equipment, paid a fine and spent some time away from home sharing a cell with Bubba. Yeah, that's the ticket!
